A RESOLUTION adjourning the Senate in celebration, honor, and appreciation of 1
the Grayson County Historical Society on the occasion of its 50th anniversary. 2
WHEREAS, the Grayson County Historical Society was established in Leitchfield, 3
Kentucky, on August 30, 1976; and 4
WHEREAS, the Grayson County Historical Society is headquartered in the historic 5
Jack Thomas House, the oldest brick home in Grayson County, built aro und 1815 by the 6
first county court clerk, Jack Thomas; and 7
WHEREAS, in addition to the Jack Thomas House, the Grayson County Historical 8
Society owns and maintains a cemetery, log cabin, and two one -room schoolhouses, 9
which are routinely visited by local schoolchildren on field trips; and 10
WHEREAS, the mission of the Grayson County Historical Society is to work to 11
preserve the history of Grayson County and its families by accumulating relative 12
documents and other artifacts; and 13
WHEREAS, the Grayson County Historical Society hosts a comprehensive research 14
library and museum in the Jack Thomas House that is open weekdays to the public; and 15
WHEREAS, the Grayson County Historical Society has authored and published 16
numerous books and other materials of local historical interest; and 17
WHEREAS, the Grayson County Historical Society regularly hosts public meetings 18
featuring guest speakers on topics of local historical interest, open houses, presentations 19
to civic groups, fields trips to local historical sites, and other educational events and 20
opportunities; and 21
WHEREAS, the Grayson County Historical Society routinely publishes newsletters 22
for its membership which stretches across the United States and beyond; and 23
WHEREAS, the Grayson County Historical Society annually awards a scholarship 24
to a deserving Grayson County High School senior and sponsors the Junior Historic al 25
Society at the high school; and 26
WHEREAS, the current board of directors of the Grayson County Historical 27

Society includes President Scotty Gore, Vice President Melinda Baum, Secretary Rose 1
Booth, Treasurer Kelly Stevenson, and directors Bill Clemons, Sh annon Harp, and 2
Allison Helm; and 3
WHEREAS, Mary Decker serves as Hostess and Librarian at the Jack Thomas 4
House; and 5
WHEREAS, the Grayson County Historical Society will celebrate its 50th 6
anniversary celebration at the Jack Thomas House in Leitchfield on S aturday, June 20, 7
2026, as part of a special event recognizing the 250th anniversary of the signing of the 8
United States of America's Declaration of Independence; 9
NOW, THEREFORE, 10
Be it resolved by the Senate of the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of 11
Kentucky: 12
Section 1. The Senate hereby extends its hearty congratulations to the Grayson 13
County Historical Society upon its 50th anniversary of service to the local community 14
and expresses its appreciation for the society's efforts to preserve and protect the history 15
of Grayson County. 16
Section 2. When the Senate adjourns this day, it does so in celebration, honor, 17
and appreciation of the Grayson County Historical Society. 18
Section 3. The Clerk of the Sen ate is directed to transmit a copy of this 19
Resolution to Senator Stephen Meredith for delivery. 20
