A RESOLUTION recommending that a permanent statue of Mitch McConnell be 1
placed in the New State Capitol Rotunda. 2
WHEREAS, Senator Mitch McConnell is this Commonwea lth's longest -serving 3
United States Senator; and 4
WHEREAS, Senator Mitch McConnell is only the second Kentuckian to serve as 5
Senate Majority Leader, serving in that capacity from 2015 to 2021; and 6
WHEREAS, on January 3, 2023, Senator Mitch McConnell became the longest -7
serving United States Senate party leader in American history, having been elected to 8
lead the Republican conference nine times since 2006, with his service extending more 9
than 17 years; and 10
WHEREAS, Senator Mitch McConnell is known for authoring and shepherding key 11
legislation to address financial and structural issues affecting the Commonwealth and this 12
nation; and 13
WHEREAS, Senator Mitch McConnell has been praised for his consequential 14
Senate leadership, being called "the most important Republ ican since Ronald Reagan"; 15

Be it resolved by the Senate of the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of 5

Section 1. The Senate hereby recommends that a permanent statue of Senator 7
Mitch McConnell be placed in the Capitol Rotunda upon the reopening of the New State 8
Capitol after completion of its renovation. 9
