A RESOLUTION honoring the George Rogers Clark High School Lady Cardinals, 1
2026 Kentucky High School Athletic Association Girls' Sweet Sixteen Basketball 2
champions. 3
WHEREAS, on March 14, 2026, in front of a crowd of 5,510 fans at Lexington's 4
Rupp Arena, the George Rogers Clark (GRC) High School Lady Cardinals defeated the 5
Assumption High School Rockets by a score of 48 -43 to win the 2026 Kentucky High 6
School Athletic Association (KHSAA) Girls' Sweet Sixteen Basketball Championship; 7
and 8
WHEREAS, the championship was the first in the storied history of the Lady 9
Cardinals, a history that includes 19 10th Region championships and four previous 10
runner-up finishes in the Sweet Sixteen, including last year's tournament; and 11
WHEREAS, the Lady Cardinals fell behind early in the championship game and 12
trailed by seven points at the end of the first quarter. After slowly clawing their way back 13
to tie the score at 33 -all at the end of the third quarter, senior guard Teigh Yeast hit three 14
straight shots at the beginning of the fourth quarter to give GRC a lead it would never 15
relinquish; and 16
WHEREAS, the victory in the Championship game avenged the Lady Cardinals' 17
only loss to a Kentu cky team all season and capped a remarkable year that ended with a 18
record of 33 wins against only two losses, with an average margin of victory of over 31 19
points per game; and 20
WHEREAS, the Lady Cardinals' victory was especially sweet because of how 21
consistently close the team had come to their ultimate goal, losing to the eventual state 22
champion in the state tournament in each of the previous four years; and 23
WHEREAS, the Lady Cardinals were led by Teigh Yeast, who averaged 14.3 24
points and 4.5 rebounds per g ame in the tournament and was named Most Valuable 25
Player of the Sweet Sixteen. Yeast was joined on the All -Tournament team by her 26
teammates, Kennedy Stamper, a junior who averaged 12.8 points per game, and 8th 27

grader Eliyah Strode, who averaged 9.8 points and 7.8 rebounds per game; and 1
WHEREAS, other members of the Lady Cardinals included seniors Anaya 2
Chestnut, Jaylynn Goodwin, Logan Kennedy, and Annette Miller; juniors Leah Howard 3
and Kyleigh Stakelin; sophomore Kyleigh Chestnut; freshmen Lila Fugate, Pre sley 4
Harper and Madelyn Honaker; 8th grader Jylin Edmonson; and managers Legend Allen, 5
Dazyre Hooten, and Kinlee Keltner; and 6
WHEREAS, the Lady Cardinals were guided to the championship by Head Coach 7
Robbie Graham, who, in 14 seasons, has guided the team to over 350 wins, 12 district 8
titles, and nine regional championships; and 9
WHEREAS, Graham was aided on the bench by assistant coaches Steve Anderson, 10
William Brown, Erica Jackson, Anovia Byars, Olivia Sparks, and Kennedy Igo; and 11
statistician Mike Rogers; and 12
WHEREAS, after the game, Graham alluded to his team's resiliency, stating "We've 13
danced all around this thing, and now we’ ve kind of kicked that wall in. In this state with 14
just one champion, I can’t describe how great this feels"; and 15
WHEREAS, the dedication, determination, and teamwork displayed by the George 16
Rogers Clark Lady Cardinals in winning the school's first girls' basketball championship 17
will live forever in the annals of Kentucky prep sports history and are indeed worthy of 18
public recognition; 19
NOW, THEREFORE, 20
Be it resolved by the Senate of the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of 21
Kentucky: 22
Section 1. The members of the Senate join Senator Greg Elkins in 23
congratulating the George Rogers Clark Lady Cardinals upon the occasion of winning the 24
2026 KHSAA Girls' Sweet Sixteen Basketball Championship, applauding the team' s 25
stellar play, and wishing all team members and coaches good fortune in their future 26
endeavors. 27
