A RESOLUTION adjourning the Senate in honor and loving memory of Dixie P. 1
Hibbs. 2
WHEREAS, Dixie P. Hibbs was born on January 12, 1942, to the late Bill and 3
Christine Boblitt Polley; and 4
WHEREAS, Dixie P. Hibbs was a graduate of Old Kentucky Home High School; 5
and 6
WHEREAS, From the earliest days of childhood, and throughout her adult life, 7
Dixie P. Hibbs demonstrated an acumen for learning; and 8
WHEREAS, Dixie P. Hibb s was tremendously connected and devoted to her 9
community of Bardstown where she served on the city council for 19 years and had the 10
distinction of being Bardstown's first female mayor upon her election in 2002; and 11
WHEREAS, Dixie P. Hibbs served as a de facto ambassador to her community as 12
she greeted visitors at the welcome center, directed tour buses, and made presentations to 13
local schools, libraries, and others about the extensive and varied history of Bardstown, 14
the city she held in the highest esteem; and 15
WHEREAS, Dixie P. Hibbs was a prolific author, having published more than 17 16
books and written more than 20 articles on the history of her local area; and 17
WHEREAS, Dixie P. Hibbs' community involvement took many guises, including 18
being a member of t he local historical society, the Daughters of the American 19
Revolution, the Bourbon Hall of Fame Committee, and the Mission Committee at 20
Nazareth; and 21
WHEREAS, Dixie P. Hibbs assisted in the preservation and caretaking of 22
Wickland, which served as the home of three Governors; and 23
WHEREAS, Dixie P. Hibbs' passion for notable historical properties included her 24
involvement in the renovation of Anatok, Flaget Hall, and Spalding Hall; and 25
WHEREAS, Dixie P. Hibbs had the distinction of being the first woman inducted 26
into the Kentucky Bourbon Hall of Fame, no doubt influenced in part by her work as a 27

board member for the Kentucky Bourbon Festival, and her histor ical scholarship 1
regarding the history of bourbon in her area; and 2
WHEREAS, Dixie P. Hibbs' passions ran most deep for her family; and 3
WHEREAS, Dixie P. Hibbs was the loving and beloved wife of the late Franklin 4
Hibbs and loving and beloved mother of Laura (Ron) Gilkerson, Stephen (Kim 5
Wheatley) Hibbs, and the late Franklin Hibbs III; and 6
WHEREAS, Dixie P. Hibbs was the doting grandmother of Adam McKay, Stephen 7
(Megan) Hibbs, Jr., Johnathan (Anna) Hibbs, Aidan Wheatley, Franklin (Alexandra) 8
Hibbs, IV, Isaac Hahn-Hibbs, Julie (Brad) Kirkpatrick, and Grant (Jenny) Gilkerson; and 9
WHEREAS, Dixie P. Hibbs was the doting great -grandmother of Alyssa Miller, 10
Harper Hibbs, Ryder Hibbs, Remy Hibbs, Izzy Hibbs, Harrison Hibbs, Margot Hibbs, 11
Taylor Carney, Elijah Jones, Lily Dion, Logan Kirkpatrick, and Sophie Kirkpatrick, Ben 12
Gilkerson, Anna, Gilkerson, and Emma Gilkerson; and 13
WHEREAS, Dixie P. Hibbs was the loving and beloved sister of Marie (Gehrig) 14
Taylor and proud aunt of the late John Taylor; and 15
WHEREAS, Dixie P. Hibbs passed from this life on October 3, 2025; 16
NOW, THEREFORE, 17
Be it resolved by the Senate of the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of 18
Kentucky: 19
Section 1. The Senate expresses its most profound sympathy upon the passing 20
of Dixie P. Hibbs and extends heartfelt condolences to her family, friends, and 21
community. 22
Section 2. When the Senate adjourns this day, it does so in honor and loving 23
memory of Dixie P. Hibbs. 24
Section 3. The Clerk of the Senate is directed to transmit a copy of this 25
Resolution to Senator Jimmy Higdon for delivery to the family. 26
