A RESOLUTION honoring the service of Donna Sue Baker to her community and 1
the Commonwealth. 2
WHEREAS, Donna Sue Baker, a resident and active community member in L aurel 3
County, has dutifully served as the Eastern Kentucky Field Representative for United 4
States Senator Mitch McConnell for over 20 years, representing him across 24 Eastern 5
Kentucky counties; and 6
WHEREAS, Donna Sue Baker is the longest serving Eastern K entucky Field 7
Representative, getting her start as an intern in Senator McConnell's London, Kentucky 8
office during the summer of 1987; and 9
WHEREAS, Donna Sue Baker completed her bachelor's degree from Berea 10
College, and worked at Laurel Grocery Company whi le earning her master's degree from 11
Eastern Kentucky University. Prior to working for Senator McConnell, she worked for 12
Laurel Heights Home for the Elderly and McKnight Properties; and 13
WHEREAS, Donna Sue Baker has served in various capacities as a voluntee r for 14
the London-Laurel County Chamber of Commerce including the President's Club from 15
1990-1998, and most recently as a Chamber Ambassador. She served on the Leadership 16
Tri-County Board of Directors, the World Chicken Festival Trustees, a member of the 17
Laurel County Rhubarb Pie Ladies' Group, and represents Senator McConnell on the 18
Cumberland Valley Area Development District Board and the Daniel Boone Community 19
Action Board; and 20
WHEREAS, Donna Sue Baker has been recognized and lauded for her 21
contributions to the community when she was named Laurel County's Woman of the 22
Year in 1998, Laurel County Chamber Volunteer of the Year in 2011, inducted into the 23
Laurel County Republican Women's Forum Hall of Fame in 2019, and named a 24
Kentucky Colonel by several admin istrations and granted similar titles across her 24 25
county region; and 26
WHEREAS, Senator McConnell stated "Donna plays a key role on my staff, 27

keeping me in close contact with my Eastern Kentucky constituents and providing me 1
with vital insights on her regi on of the state [...] I am incredibly grateful for her public 2
service and am proud to have her on my team," said Senator McConnell; and 3
WHEREAS, the late Chamber of Commerce Director Randy Smith wrote, "Donna 4
is naturally gifted with a terrific personality and one that offers her the ability to 5
communicate with anyone she meets . . . She is career -oriented and self -motivated and 6
not intimidated to set lofty goals that she will work diligently to reach."; and 7
WHEREAS, Donna Sue Baker is a mother of three children, Jonathan and his wife 8
Jordan, Donavon, and Martina Faith McClure; 9
NOW, THEREFORE, 10
Be it resolved by the Senate of the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of 11
Kentucky: 12
Section 1. The Senate hereby honors Donna Sue Baker for her service to her 13
community and the Commonwealth as a dedicated servant. 14
Section 2. When the Senate adjourns this day, it does so in honor of Donna Sue 15
Baker. 16
Section 3. The Clerk of the Senate is directed to transmit a copy of this 17
Resolution to Senator Brandon Storm. 18
