WHEREAS, Brenda Holmes was born on November 30, 1954, to the late Stanley 3
and Sallie Smith; and 4
WHEREAS, Brenda Holmes confessed her faith in Christ at an early age and 5
became a devoted member of Shiloh Baptist Church; and 6
WHEREAS, Brenda Holmes attended Eastern Kentucky University, where she 7
pursued her passion for education and received her bachelor's degree; and 8
WHEREAS, Brenda Holmes nurtured the minds of many young children 9
throughout her career, devoting 29 years of her life to teaching elementary school 10
students; and 11
WHEREAS, Brenda Holmes continued to have an impact on the lives o f students 12
even after retirement, volunteering her time as a teacher for Vacation Bible School and 13
the Read to Succeed program; and 14
WHEREAS, Brenda Holmes also discovered a passion for photography and poetry 15
during retirement and enjoyed sharing her poetry and words of encouragement with 16
others; and 17
WHEREAS, Brenda Holmes deeply loved her family and especially treasured 18
making memories with her beloved grandchildren; and 19
WHEREAS, Brenda Holmes departed this life on April 4, 2026, having lived a life 20
of service to others and to God; and 21
WHEREAS, Brenda Holmes is survived by her husband of 47 years, Edward 22
Holmes; children, Margot Smith and Ryan (Georgina) Holmes; two sister s, Doris 23
(George) White and Beverly Clayborne; aunt, Virginia Smith; grandchildren, Jordynn 24
Smith, Jalynn Smith, Vivian Holmes, and Olivia Holmes; and a host of cousins, nieces, 25
nephews, and brothers- and sisters-in-law; 26

Be it resolved by t he Senate of the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of 1
Kentucky: 2
Section 1. The Senate hereby expresses its most profound sympathy upon the 3
passing of Brenda Holmes and extends heartfelt condolences to her family, friends, and 4
community. 5
Section 2. When the Senate adjourns this day, it does so in honor and loving 6
memory of Brenda Holmes. 7
Section 3. The Clerk of the Senate is directed to transmit a copy of this 8
Resolution to Senator Reginald Thomas for delivery to the family. 9
