WHEREAS, Robert E. "Bob" Purnell, Sr. was born in 1934 to Clara and F red 3
Purnell in Nashville, Tennessee; and 4
WHEREAS, Robert E. "Bob" Purnell, Sr., moved with his family from Nashville to 5
Louisville in 1950, when he was 16, and then to Simpsonville in 1955; and 6
WHEREAS, Robert E. "Bob" Purnell, Sr., was a partner alongside his parents and 7
siblings in the F.B. Purnell's Sausage Company, which remains headquartered in 8
Simpsonville, Kentucky, to this day; and 9
WHEREAS, through the hard work and dedication of Robert E. "Bob" Purnell, Sr., 10
and his siblings, the family propelled t he company founded by their father to the heights 11
of national success and Purnell's Sausage Company products can be found in grocery 12
stores across America as well as in Dairy Queen and Cracker Barrel restaurants; and 13
WHEREAS, Robert E. "Bob" Purnell, Sr. m ade sausage for 75 years, and his 14
leadership in Facilities and Maintenance of the company's flagship Simpsonville sausage 15
factory ensured the product's high quality, strong company morale, and national success. 16
Bob even coined the company's famous tagline "It's Goooo-od"; and 17
WHEREAS, Robert E. "Bob" Purnell, Sr.'s, devotion to his family and business was 18
matched by his dedication to his community. Bob was a member of the Shelbyville 19
Baptist Church, a cherished singing member of the Thoroughbred Chorus, and an avid 20
golfer, and a member of Shelbyville and Harmony Landing Country Clubs, and he gave 21
back by supporting St. Jude's Children's Hospital and numerous other charities; and 22
WHEREAS, Robert E. "Bob" Purnell, Sr., passed from this earthly life at his home 23
in Louisville on October 29, 2025; and 24
WHEREAS, Robert E. "Bob" Purnell, Sr. is survived by his wife of 71 years, Jane; 25
three children, Rhonda Purnell, Pam (Steve) Montgomery, and Robert Purnell, Jr.; seven 26
grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren; 27

NOW, THEREFORE, 1
Be it resolved by the Sena te of the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of 2
Kentucky: 3
Section 1. The Senate hereby joins Senator Reginald Thomas in expressing its 4
most profound sympathy upon the passing of Robert E. "Bob" Purnell, Sr. and extends 5
heartfelt condolences to his family. 6
Section 2. When the Senate a djourns this day, it does so in honor and loving 7
memory of Robert E. "Bob" Purnell, Sr. 8
Section 3. The Clerk of the Senate is directed to transmit a copy of this 9
Resolution to Senator Reginald Thomas for delivery to the family of Robert E. "Bob" 10
Purnell, Sr. 11
