A RESOLUTION recognizing January 27, 2026, as International Holocaust 1
Remembrance Day. 2
WHEREAS, the Holocaust was the state -sponsored, systematic persecution and 3
attempted annihilation of European Jewry by Nazi Germany and its collaborators 4
between 1933 and 1945 during which six million Jews were murdered; and 5
WHEREAS, the history of the Holocaust offers an opportunity to reflect on the 6
moral responsibilities of individuals, societies, and governments; and 7
WHEREAS, we the people of the Commonwealth of Kentucky should always 8
remember the terrible events of the Holocaust and remain vigilant against hatred, 9
persecution, and tyranny; and 10
WHEREAS, in the aftermath of the October 7, 2023, atrocities, the bloodiest day in 11
Jewish history since the Holocaust, and after the Sydney Menorah Massacre, where 15 12
people were murdered at a celebration of Chanukah, we are reminded of the vow, "Never 13
Again"; and 14
WHEREAS, rising antise mitism in the United States makes clear the need for 15
continued vigilance and dedication to the principles of individual freedom in a just 16
society; and 17
WHEREAS, the Kentucky Jewish Council's annual report on antisemitism makes 18
clear our need to combat antisemitism here in the Commonwealth; and 19
WHEREAS, on November 1, 2005, the United Nations General Assembly adopted 20
Resolution 60/7 to designate January 27 as International Holocaust Remembrance Day to 21
correspond with the anniversary of the liberation of Ausc hwitz-Birkenau, and it is meant 22
to honor the victims of Nazism and to condemn all forms of "religious intolerance, 23
incitement, harassment or violence against persons or communities based on ethnic origin 24
or religious belief" throughout the world; 25
NOW, THEREFORE, 26
Be it resolved by the Senate of the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of 27

Section 1. The members of the Senate hereby recognize January 27, 2026, as 2
International Holocaust Remembrance Day, in memory of the victims of the Holocaust 3
and in honor of the survivors as well as the rescuers and liberators, and further proclaim 4
that we, as ci tizens of the Commonwealth of Kentucky, should work to promote human 5
dignity and confront antisemitism and hate whenever and wherever it occurs. 6
