A RESOLUTION recognizing January 2026 as Kentucky Mentorship Month. 1
WHEREAS, mentorship plays a critical role in the personal, academic, and 2
professional development of young people by providing guidance, encouragement, and 3
positive role models; and 4
WHEREAS, research consistently demonstrates that young people with mentors are 5
more likely to succeed in school, pursue postsecondary education or workforce training, 6
maintain stable employment, and contribute positively to their communities; and 7
WHEREAS, strong mentoring relationships foster community connection by 8
bridging generations, strengthening families, and reinforcing shared values such as 9
responsibility, service, and perseverance; and 10
WHEREAS, mentors, including educators, employers, faith leaders, volunteers, and 11
community members, help young people navigate challenges, develop life skills, and 12
discover pathways to meaningful careers and civic engagement; and 13
WHEREAS, mentorship is especially vital in supporting youth who face barriers to 14
opportunity, helping to expand access to education, career exploration, and workforce 15
readiness across the Commonwealth; and 16
WHEREAS, Kentucky’s future economic strength and ci vic health depend upon 17
investing in young people today through intentional relationships that build confidence, 18
character, and connection to community; 19
NOW, THEREFORE, 20
Be it resolved by the Senate of the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of 21
Kentucky: 22
Section 1. The members of the Senate hereby recognize January 2026 as 23
Kentucky Mentorship Month. 24
Section 2. When the Senate adjourns this day, it recognizes and celebrates the 25
individuals, organizations, schools, businesses, an d community groups that provide 26
mentorship and support to Kentucky’s youth. 27

Section 3. The members of the Senate encourage the citizens of the 1
Commonwealth to support, promote, and participate in mentorship opportunities that help 2
young people succeed and strengthen Kentucky’s communities. 3
Section 4. The Clerk of the Senate is directed to transmit a copy of this 4
Resolution to Senator Shelley Funke Frommeyer for delivery. 5
