A RESOLUTION recognizing May 2026 as Love Your Smile Month. 1
WHEREAS, cleft lip and cleft palate are among the most common congenital 2
conditions, affecting one newborn every three minutes; and 3
WHEREAS, many families across the world lack access to the resources and 4
medical care needed to address these cleft conditions; and 5
WHEREAS, every year, eight Kentuckians will be born with a cleft palate; and 6
WHEREAS, while many with cl eft conditions can receive the care they need, the 7
public support they receive in the Commonwealth is minimal; and 8
WHEREAS, Smile Train, the world's largest cleft -focused organization, is 9
dedicated to working towards their mission of providing free cleft s urgeries and 10
comprehensive care to children in need; and 11
WHEREAS, by designating May 2026 as Love Your Smile Month, the 12
Commonwealth has the opportunity to raise awareness of cleft conditions, reduce the 13
stigma associated with cleft conditions, and support the global effort to create brighter 14
futures for children with cleft conditions; and 15
WHEREAS, this initiative furthers Smile Train's vision of empowering our 16
communities and spreading awareness about the importance of early intervention and 17
comprehensive cleft care; 18
NOW, THEREFORE, 19
Be it resolved by the Senate of the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of 20
Kentucky: 21
Section 1. The members of the Senate hereby recognize May 2026 as Love 22
Your Smile Month. 23
Section 2. The Clerk of the Senate is directed to transmit a copy of this 24
Resolution to Senator Jimmy Higdon. 25
