A RESOLUTION adjourning the Senate in loving memory and honor of the 1
Reverend George Clifton Curington, Sr. 2
WHEREAS, George Clifton Curington, Sr., was born March 2, 1938, in Brooklyn, 3
New York, and moved to Louisville, Kentucky, in 1950. He attended junior high school 4
in Louisville and is a 1956 graduate of Central High School. He was married to Brunhilda 5
Williams-Curington and was the father of six children; and 6
WHEREAS, the Reverend George Clifton Curington, Sr., was a committed 7
Christian and served his God in many ways. In 1968, he was licensed by Green Street 8
Baptist Church to preach the Gospel of Jesus Christ. He was a founding member and 9
chairman of the East L ouisville Community Ministries and was a facilitator for the 10
Kentuckiana Interfaith Community Racial and Ethnic Dialogue/Study Circles. In 1999, 11
he was ordained to preach the Gospel of Word and Sacrament at Fifth Street Baptist 12
Church; and 13
WHEREAS, the Rev erend George Clifton Curington, Sr., was also a dedicated 14
employee of the Jefferson County Police Department. He and his partner were the first 15
African American Jefferson County police officers to have full arrest authority, and he 16
was the first African Am erican Jefferson County Police Department detective. He was 17
also the treasurer of the department's Fraternal Order of Police, established the first 18
Community Relations Department within the organization, was the Director of 19
Community Relations for the depa rtment's detective division, and was a member of the 20
Crime Prevention Task Force for Metro Louisville, District 5; and 21
WHEREAS, the Reverend George Clifton Curington, Sr., dedicated more than half 22
of his lifetime to serving his fellow man. Among the many a ccomplishments and honors 23
he has received over his lifetime include: Kentucky Colonel; Charter President of the 24
West Louisville Jaycees; Board Member of the Fern Creek Jaycees; Treasurer of Alpha 25
Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., during the building of the J.O. Blanton House; first African 26
American Banking Officer at First National Bank of Louisville; chairman of the Selective 27

Services Draft Board No. 45; Forum Fellow at the Louisville Courier Journal Class of 1
2003; co-chair of Neighborhood Place Managing Board; board member of Community 2
Partnering for Protecting Children; member of the Steering Committee of Saving Our 3
Children—"A Restorative Justice Initiative"; member of the Advisory Board, State of 4
African American Youth in Metro Louisville; board member of Cha mpions for West 5
Louisville Economic Development; board member of the Neighborhood Place Ujima; 6
and recipient of the District 5 Metro Council Molly Leonard Community Service Award; 7
and 8
WHEREAS, the Senate acknowledges the dedication and exceptional efforts of the 9
Reverend George Clifton Curington, Sr., as a concerned citizen, businessman, devout 10
Christian, and dedicated police officer with the Jefferson County Police Department who 11
worked to improve life in Louisville, Kentucky; and 12
WHEREAS, on January 18th, 2026, the Reverend George Clifton Curington, Sr., 13
passed from this Earthly life to continue his walk with his Savior in Heaven; 14
NOW, THEREFORE, 15
Be it resolved by the Senate of the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of 16
Kentucky: 17
Section 1. The Senate expresses its most profound sense of sorrow and extends 18
its sincere condolences to the family, friends, and community of the Reverend George 19
Clifton Curington, Sr., on the sad occasion of his passing. 20
Section 2. The Senate recognizes the manifold positive differences and 21
contributions the Reverend George Clifton Curington, Sr., has made for his fellow 22
residents and the community within Louisville and Jefferson County over the course of 23
his extraordinary life. 24
Section 3. When the Senate adjourns this day, it does so in loving memory and 25
honor of the Reverend George Clifton Curington, Sr. 26
Section 4. The Clerk of the Senate is directed to t ransmit a copy of this 27
