A RESOLUTION honoring Frank Riherd, founder of the Riherd's Scoreboard, for 1
his enduring contributions to Kentucky high school athletics. 2
WHEREAS, native of Glasgow, Kentucky, Frank Riherd's family owned a sporting 3
goods store in his hometown; and 4
WHEREAS, after travelling to Louisville in 1968 as a high school freshman to see 5
his Glasgow Scotties capture the Kentucky High School Athletic Association (KHSAA) 6
boys' basketball championship, Frank Riherd became enthralled with numbers that 7
surrounded sports and proceeded to keep statistics for the Glasgow basketball and 8
football teams the next year; and 9
WHEREAS, after graduating from Glasgow High School, Frank Riherd a ttended 10
Georgia Institute of Technology, where he studied electrical engineering and worked 11
developing software that would collect and analyze data from radar systems; and 12
WHEREAS, Frank Riherd's career as an electrical engineer led him across the 13
globe, from California, to Germany, and eventually to France, where he worked for VLSI 14
Technology before striking out on his own as a consultant in 1996; and 15
WHEREAS, during a visit home to Glasgow in early 1997, he sold his father on an 16
idea for a trophy order we bsite for the sporting goods store, and also approached the 17
KHSAA about establishing an online scoreboard to disseminate high school sports 18
information at the user's convenience; and 19
WHEREAS, the Riherd's Scoreboard officially kicked off in the fall of 1997, and as 20
the operation grew and flourished, it has become the historical repository of high school 21
sports information in the Commonwealth; and 22
WHEREAS, since 1997, the Riherd's Scoreboard, which now covers 12 boys' and 23
girls' sports, has recorded over 650 ,000 games representing almost 30 million points, 24
runs, and goals scored by prep athletes from every corner of Kentucky; and 25
WHEREAS, the importance of this endeavor was perhaps best explained by Frank 26
Riherd himself, when he said, "Each of those points comes from a player competing as 27

part of a team. And we should never lose sight of the fact that they are the reason we do 1
all of this. That's our North Star — the athlete"; and 2
WHEREAS, on January 10, 2026, Frank Riherd announced that the 2025 -2026 3
school year will be his last managing the scoreboards; and 4
WHEREAS, news of Frank Riherd stepping away from the scoreboard he has mad e 5
his life's work was met with sadness and deep appreciation from all corners of the 6
Commonwealth, with KHSAA Commissioner Julian Tackett summing up the feelings of 7
many when he said, "He’s been a fixture in our association for a long time. We really 8
express our love and affection for him as well as our respect for the professional work 9
he’s done on behalf of our membership"; and 10
WHEREAS, Zack Klemme, the sports director for HD Media, with 13 newspapers 11
in Kentucky, Virginia, West Virginia, and Ohio, also l auded Frank Riherd's work: "The 12
KHSAA website and scoreboard is the gold standard for access to information and ease 13
of use. I am thankful for the role Frank Riherd has played for 15 years in making my life 14
easier and making my work better"; and 15
WHEREAS, the KHSAA has pledged to continue the scoreboard, and although the 16
service will undoubtedly continue, the vision, passion, and foresight of Frank Riherd and 17
the indelible mark he has made on high school athletics in the Commonwealth will never 18
be forgotten and is certainly worthy of public recognition; 19
NOW, THEREFORE, 20
Be it resolved by the Senate of the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of 21
Kentucky: 22
Section 1. The members of the Senate join Senator David Givens in honoring 23
Frank Riherd for developing and operating the Riherd's Scoreboard, applauding the 24
positive impact he has had on generations of high school athletes in the Commonwealth, 25
and expressing thei r deep appreciation for his years of hard work involved in this 26
endeavor. 27

Section 2. The Clerk of the Senate shall transmit a copy of this Resolution to 1
Senator David Givens for presentation to Frank Riherd. 2
