A RESOLUTION adjourning the Senate in honor and loving memory of Joseph 1
Hardin McFarland. 2
WHEREAS, Joseph Hardin McFarland was born on January 30, 1931, in Bowling 3
Green, Kentucky, and traversed these earthly bounds to join his Father in Heaven on 4
January 14, 2026, at the age of 94 years; and 5
WHEREAS, Joseph Hardin McFarland was a 1949 graduate of Bowling Green 6
High School. He received his Bachelor of Business Admini stration from the University 7
of Nebraska Omaha and his Master of Hospital Administration from Baylor University; 8
and 9
WHEREAS, Joseph Hardin McFarland was married to his wife, Alicia Ruth 10
Rawlins McFarland, for 65 years and they had three daughters; and 11
WHEREAS, Joseph Hardin McFarland was in the United States Army for 28 years 12
where he served in Korea, Fort Benning, Fort Sam Houston, Vietnam, Germany, and the 13
Presidio of San Francisco; and 14
WHEREAS, Joseph Hardin McFarland retired from the 6th Army Medical 15
Command in 1976 as a Lieutenant Colonel and returned to Bowling Green; and 16
WHEREAS, upon his retirement from service, Joseph Hardin McFarland returned 17
to his beloved Presbyterian Church where he served as an elder and deacon as a devoted 18
follower of Jesus C hrist. He joined the Noon Rotary Club where he was an active 19
member for 40 years. His mission of service continued outside of the church as he served 20
on the Salvation Army board of directors and was active in numerous organizations, 21
supporting the arts, We stern Kentucky University, and the community's most vulnerable. 22
Joseph Hardin McFarland started the shoe and sock donation drive for Warren 23
Elementary School and enjoyed reading to the kindergarten and first grade classes 24
regularly; and 25
WHEREAS, Joseph Hardin McFarland was preceded in death by his dear wife. He 26
is survived by his three daughters, Jane McFarland Coverdale, Susan McFarland (Greg) 27

Liske, and Catherine McFarland (Mike) Wilson; three grandchildren, Melinda Catherine 1
(Brent) Fry, Mary Catherine (Eric) Soister, and Drew Allen Liske; four great -2
grandchildren, Mason Rawlins Fry, Lillian Grace Fry, Joseph Grant Soister, and Laurel 3
Ruth Soister; and a host of family and friends; and 4
WHEREAS, the passing of Joseph Hardin McFarland has left a void that can never 5
be filled and he will be missed greatly by his family, friends, and the community of 6
Bowling Green, Kentucky; 7
NOW, THEREFORE, 8
Be it resolved by the Senate of the General Assembl y of the Commonwealth of 9
Kentucky: 10
Section 1. The Senate expresses its deep sense of sorrow upon the passing of 11
Joseph Hardin McFarland and extends to his family, friends, and community its sincerest 12
condolences. 13
Section 2. When the Senate adjourns this day, it does so in honor and loving 14
memory of Joseph Hardin McFarland. 15
Section 3. The Clerk of the Senate is directed to transmit a copy of this 16
Resolution to Senator Mike Wilson for delivery to the family. 17
