A RESOLUTION honoring police officer Nick Wilt on the occasion of his 1
retirement from Louisville Metro Police Department. 2
WHEREAS, Nick Wilt's service to the Loui sville Metro Police Department began 3
on March 21, 2023; and 4
WHEREAS, Nick Wilt was honored for his retirement in January 2026 after a brief 5
but exceptional career with the Louisville Metro Police Department; and 6
WHEREAS, Nick Wilt, is best remembered for his bravery by being one of the first 7
officers to respond to the Old National Bank shooting on April 10, 2023; which left 6 8
people dead and eight injured; and 9
WHEREAS, only 10 days out of the training academy, Nick Wilt was severely 10
wounded during that inc ident and was forced to embark on an extended recovery and 11
rehabilitation journey; and 12
WHEREAS, Nick Wilt's heroic actions during the Old National Bank shooting, 13
saved many lives and left a lasting impression of what it means to be a hero; and 14
WHEREAS, in presenting Nick Wilt with an award for his service, Louisville 15
Metro Police Chief Paul Humphrey stated, "You represent the best of what we are. I 16
don’t know what kind of cop you were going to be, but I know what kind of man you 17
are"; and 18
WHEREAS, in givin g Nick Wilt a key to the city, Mayor Craig Greenberg said, 19
"That day here in Louisville, Kentucky, one of our newest officers answered that call 20
without hesitation and with incredible bravery, putting himself in harm’s way, . . . [and] 21
prioritizing other people’s safety over his own"; and 22
WHEREAS, Attorney General Russell Coleman echoed the sentiments of others 23
when he said "So many people that you didn’t even know were praying for you, giving 24
thanks for your survival, and praying that God would come alongside your recovery"; 25
and 26
WHEREAS, Assistant Chief Bryan Edelen lauded Nick Wilt’s example since that 27

day, stating, "That resilience, that strength, is something that all of us here in this room 1
and throughout the entire community have followed and witnessed through your journey. 2
While your career is ending, what is not ending is your place in our family"; and 3
WHEREAS, as Nick Wilt takes medical retirement and moves on to the next 4
chapter of his life, he is surrounded by love and admiration of his community, friends, 5
and family; 6
NOW, THEREFORE, 7
Be it resolved by the Senate of the General Assembly of the Com monwealth of 8
Kentucky: 9
Section 1. The members of the Senate applaud the heroic actions of Louisville 10
Metro Police Department's Nick Wilt, wish him the best on his continuing recovery, 11
congratulate him on his retirement. 12
Section 2. The Clerk of the Senate is directed to transmit a copy of this 13
Resolution to Senator Gerald Neal for presentation to Nick Wilt. 14
