2 To amend and reenact R.S. 22:1029(B) relative to health insurance coverage; to establish a
3 classification for colorectal cancer screening colonoscopies; to provide for associated
4 preventive services; and to provide for related matters.
5 Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana:
6 Section 1. R.S. 22:1029(B) is hereby amended and reenacted to read as follows:
7 §1029. Requirement for coverage of colorectal cancer screening

9 B.(1) As used in this Section, "routine colorectal cancer screening" means
10 any test or screening provided in accordance with the most recently published
11 recommendations established by the American Cancer Society or the National
12 Comprehensive Cancer Network for the ages, family histories, and frequencies
13 referenced in such recommendations. "Routine colorectal cancer screening" does not
14 mean services otherwise excluded from coverage because they are deemed by a
15 health coverage plan to be experimental or investigational.
16 (2) Any colonoscopy conducted for the purpose of colorectal cancer
17 screening shall be classified as a screening service, irrespective of whether a polyp
18 or other tissue is excised during the procedure.
