1 AN ACT
2 To amend and reenact R.S. 15:1109(A) and 1109.1(A)(introductory paragraph), (9), and (10)
3 and to repeal R.S. 15:1109.1(A)(11), relative to the Acadiana Regional Juvenile
4 Justice District; to remove Vermilion Parish as a member of the Acadiana Regional
5 Juvenile Justice District; to remove a member of the board of commissioners for the
6 district; to provide for an effective date; and to provide for related matters.
7 Notice of intention to introduce this Act has been published
8 as provided by Article III, Section 13 of the Constitution of
9 Louisiana.
10 Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana:
11 Section 1. R.S. 15:1109(A) and 1109.1(A)(introductory paragraph), (9), and (10)
12 are hereby amended and reenacted to read as follows:
13 §1109. Acadiana Regional Juvenile Justice District; creation; definitions; domicile
14 A. The Acadiana Regional Juvenile Justice District is hereby created as a
15 political subdivision of the state having a territorial jurisdiction throughout the
16 parishes of Acadia, Allen, Evangeline, Iberia, Jefferson Davis, St. Landry, St.
17 Martin, and St. Mary, and Vermilion.

19 §1109.1. Board of commissioners; appointments; terms
20 A. The Acadiana Regional Juvenile Justice District Commission is hereby
21 created to control, administer, and manage the affairs of the district. The commission
22 shall be composed of a board of eleven ten commissioners who shall be appointed
23 as follows:

25 (9) One commissioner, who shall be a qualified elector domiciled and
26 residing within Vermilion Parish, shall be jointly appointed by the chief judge and

1 district attorney for the Fifteenth Judicial District and the sheriff of Vermilion Parish
2 for an initial term of four years.
3 (10) (9) One commissioner, who shall be a qualified elector domiciled and
4 residing within the district, shall be jointly appointed by the parish presidents of the
5 parishes included within the district and the presidents of the police juries in those
6 parishes without home rule charters or parish presidents for an initial term of four
7 years.
8 (11) (10) One commissioner, who shall be a qualified elector domiciled and
9 residing within the district, shall be jointly appointed by the judges of the city courts
10 within the district exercising juvenile jurisdiction for an initial term of four years.

12 Section 2. R.S. 15:1109.1(A)(11) is hereby repealed in its entirety.
13 Section 3 This Act shall become effective upon signature by the governor or, if not
14 signed by the governor, upon expiration of the time for bills to become law without signature
15 by the governor, as provided by Article III, Section 18 of the Constitution of Louisiana. If
16 vetoed by the governor and subsequently approved by the legislature, this Act shall become
17 effective on the day following such approval.
