LEGISLATORS: Authorizes legislators to attend meetings of an entity for which
membership is subject to legislative confirmation
1 AN ACT
2 To amend and reenact R.S. 24:8, relative to the authority of legislators to attend public and
3 private meetings of certain entities; to provide for the authority of legislators to
4 attend any meeting held by a task force or authority; to provide for the authority of
5 legislators to attend any meeting held by an entity with membership subject to
6 legislative confirmation; and to provide for related matters.
7 Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana:
8 Section 1. R.S. 24:8 is hereby amended and reenacted to read as follows:
9 §8. Authority to attend meetings of state boards, commissions, task forces,
10 authorities, agencies and committees; entities subject to confirmation
11 A. The members of the legislature shall be eligible and are hereby authorized
12 to attend any meeting of any state board, commission, task force, authority, agency,
13 or committee and such attendance shall be permitted at both public meetings and
14 those held in private or executive session.
15 B. Notwithstanding any provision of law to the contrary, the provisions of
16 Subsection A of this Section shall apply to any entity if any or all of its membership
17 is subject to legislative confirmation.

Abstract: Provides for the authority of legislators to attend any meeting held by any state
board, commission, agency, authority, task force, or committee and specifies that this
authority also extends to any entity with membership subject to legislative
confirmation.
Present law authorizes members of the legislature to attend any meeting of any state board,
commission, agency, or committee. Further provides that this attendance extends to both
public meetings and those held in private or executive session.
Proposed law retains present law and provides that the authority of members of the
legislature to attend any meeting extends to meetings held by a task force or authority.
Further provides that the authority of members of the legislature to attend any meeting
applies to any entity if any or all of its membership is subject to legislative confirmation.
