1 AN ACT
2 To amend and reenact R.S. 24:972(A)(11) through (22), to enact R.S. 24:972(F), and to
3 repeal R.S. 24:972(A)(23) through (25), relative to the Louisiana Commission on
4 Civic Education; to provide for the membership of the commission; to provide
5 relative to the appointment of certain members; to remove certain members; to
6 authorize certain persons to designate a member; to provide for quorum
7 requirements; and to provide for related matters.
8 Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana:
9 Section 1. R.S. 24:972(A)(11) through (22) are hereby amended and reenacted and
10 R.S. 24:972(F) is hereby enacted to read as follows:
11 §972. Membership; meetings; compensation; staff
12 A. The commission shall consist of the following members:

14 (11) One state coordinator of the Louisiana Legislators Back to School
15 Program, to represent the Senate program, appointed jointly by the president of the
16 Senate.
17 (12) One state coordinator of the Louisiana Legislators Back to School
18 Program, to represent the House of Representatives program, appointed by and the
19 speaker of the House of Representatives.

16 Organizations, appointed by the chairman of the Louisiana Association of Non-Profit
17 Organizations.
18 (21) (19) One member to represent the Louisiana Chapter of the National
19 Association for the Advancement of Colored People, appointed by the president of
20 the Louisiana Chapter of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored
21 People.
22 (22) (20) The chairman of the Volunteer Louisiana Commission, or his
23 designee.
24 (23) Any additional member who has expertise in civic education or civic
25 involvement, as may be designated by three-fourths of the commission members
26 present and voting. Such member shall serve at the pleasure of the commission.
27 (24) (21) One member to represent the Louisiana District Judges
28 Association, appointed by the president of its board of directors.
29 (25) (22) The chief justice of the Louisiana Supreme Court or his designee.

1 F. Ten members of the commission shall constitute a quorum for the
2 transaction of business, and all official action of the commission shall require the
3 favorable vote of a majority of those members present and voting.
4 Section 2. 24:972(A)(23) through (25) are hereby repealed in their entirety.
