EDUCATION: Provides for students at École Pointe-au-Chien
1 AN ACT
2 To amend and reenact R.S. 17:1977.1, relative to École Pointe-au-Chien; to provide for the
3 grade levels to be served; to provide for an effective date; and to provide for related
4 matters.
5 Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana:
6 Section 1. R.S. 17:1977.1 is hereby amended and reenacted to read as follows:
7 §1977.1. École Pointe-au-Chien; creation; location; governance
8 There is hereby created École Pointe-au-Chien, a public French immersion
9 school for students in grades prekindergarten through four. eight. The school shall
10 be located in Terrebonne Parish. The school shall be independent of the control of
11 the state superintendent of education and of all local and state education boards
12 except its board of directors.
13 Section 2.(A) The provisions of Section 1 of this Act shall become effective when
14 an Act of the Louisiana Legislature containing a specific appropriation of monies for the
15 implementation of the provisions of this Act becomes effective.
16 (B) The provisions of this Section shall become effective upon signature by the
17 governor or, if not signed by the governor, upon expiration of the time for bills to become
18 law without signature by the governor, as provided by Article III, Section 18 of the
19 Constitution of Louisiana. If vetoed by the governor and subsequently approved by the
20 legislature, the provisions of this Section shall become effective on the day following such
21 approval.
