BUILDING CODES: Provides relative to standards when constructing a residential roof in
a parish in the coastal zone boundary
1 AN ACT
2 To enact R.S. 40:1730.28.2(A)(4), relative to standards when constructing residential roofs
3 in a parish in the coastal boundary; to provide for fortified roofs on residential
4 property in the coastal zone boundary; to provide for a certified fortified roof
5 designation; and to provide for related matters.
6 Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana:
7 Section 1. R.S. 40:1730.28.2(A)(4) is hereby enacted to read as follows:
8 §1730.28.2. State Uniform Construction Code; requirements and prohibitions
9 A. The State Uniform Construction Code shall:

11 (4) For the entirety of a parish that is located, in whole or in part, in the
12 coastal zone boundary, as designated by R.S. 49:214.24, require that residential
13 structures, built on or after January 1, 2027, are built with a roof that meets the latest
14 fortified roof building standards of the Insurance Institute for Business and Home
15 Safety and are inspected such that the residential structure receives a certified
16 fortified roof designation from the Insurance Institute for Business and Home Safety.

Abstract: Provides relative to the construction of a roof in a parish in the coastal zone
boundary.
Present law provides for requirements and prohibitions for the State Uniform Construction
Code.
Proposed law retains requirements and prohibitions in present law and adds that for an
entirety of a parish located, in whole or in part, in the coastal zone boundary, designated by
present law, residential structures, built on or after January 1, 2027, are required to be built
with a roof that meets the latest fortified roof building standards of the Insurance Institute
for Business and Home Safety and are inspected such that the residential structure receives
a certified fortified roof designation from the Insurance Institute for Business and Home
Safety.
