HB 529 Original 2026 Regular Session Bayham
Abstract: Removes the State Board of Elementary and Secondary Education (BESE) from
the definition of party primary office.
Present law (R.S. 18:2(9)) provides for the offices that are defined as party primary offices
and therefore subject to party primary elections. Provides that the party primary offices
include the office of senator or representative in the U.S. Congress, justice of the supreme
court, BESE, and the Public Service Commission.
Proposed law removes BESE from the definition of party primary office. Otherwise retains
present law.
