1 AN ACT
2 To enact R.S. 17:176(G), relative to high school interscholastic extracurricular athletics; to
3 prohibit certain schools from being members of, or participating in any competition
4 sponsored by, associations or organizations that do not have certain persons as voting
5 members of their governing boards or committees; and to provide for related matters.
6 Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana:
7 Section 1. R.S. 17:176(G) is hereby enacted to read as follows:
8 §176. Extracurricular activities; interscholastic athletics; participation; standards;
9 prohibitions; filming or videotaping; definitions

11 G. Notwithstanding any other law to the contrary, no public school or
12 nonpublic school that receives state funds may be a member of, or participate in any
13 competition sponsored by, any intrastate interscholastic extracurricular athletic
14 association or organization that does not provide for the following persons to serve
15 as members of its governing board or committee and to be afforded the voting rights
16 prescribed for all members:
17 (1) A person appointed by the governor of Louisiana.
18 (2) A member of the House of Representatives appointed by the speaker of
19 the House of Representatives.

Abstract: Prohibits schools from being members of, or participating in competition
sponsored by, an athletic association that does not provide for a gubernatorial
appointee, a House member, and a Senate member to serve as voting members of its
governing board or committee.
Proposed law provides that no public school or nonpublic school that receives state funds
may be a member of, or participate in any competition sponsored by, any intrastate
interscholastic extracurricular athletic association or organization that does not provide for
the following persons to serve as members of its governing board or committee and to be
afforded the voting rights prescribed for all members:
(1) A person appointed by the governor of Louisiana.
(2) A member of the House of Representatives appointed by the speaker.
(3) A member of the Senate appointed by the president.
