DISTRICT ATTORNEYS/ASST: Provides for an increase in the dollar amount in warrants
to provide for the salaries of assistant district attorneys
1 AN ACT
2 To amend and reenact R.S. 16:10(A)(2) and 11(A)(1), relative to the annual salary of
3 assistant district attorneys and district attorneys paid by the state; to provide for an
4 increase in the annual salary of assistant district attorneys and district attorneys paid
5 by the state; to provide for an effective date; and to provide for related matters.
6 Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana:
7 Section 1. R.S. 16:10(A)(2) and 11(A)(1) are hereby amended and reenacted to read
8 as follows:
9 §10. Annual salary of district attorneys payable by state

12 (2) Effective July 1, 2020, the annual salary of the several district attorneys
13 throughout the state of Louisiana is hereby fixed at fifty-two thousand five hundred
14 dollars payable monthly by the state treasurer upon the warrant of the district
15 attorney. Effective July 1, 2021, the annual salary of the several district attorneys
16 throughout the state of Louisiana is hereby fixed at fifty-five thousand dollars
17 payable monthly by the state treasurer upon the warrant of the district attorney.
18 Effective July 1, 2026, the annual salary of the several district attorneys throughout

1 the state of Louisiana is hereby fixed at sixty-five thousand dollars payable monthly
2 by the state treasurer upon the warrant of the district attorney.

4 §11. Annual salary of assistant district attorneys payable by state
5 A.(1) Except as provided in Paragraph (2) of this Subsection, effective July
6 1, 2006, the annual salary of each of the several assistant district attorneys
7 throughout the state of Louisiana, including the parish of Orleans, is hereby fixed at
8 thirty-five thousand dollars payable monthly by the state treasurer upon the warrant
9 of each of the assistant district attorneys. Effective July 1, 2007, the annual salary
10 of each of the several assistant district attorneys, throughout the state of Louisiana,
11 including the parish of Orleans, is hereby fixed at forty thousand dollars payable
12 monthly by the state treasurer upon the warrant of each of the assistant district
13 attorneys. Effective July 1, 2008, the annual salary of each of the several assistant
14 district attorneys, throughout the state of Louisiana, including the parish of Orleans,
15 is hereby fixed at forty-five thousand dollars payable monthly by the state treasurer
16 upon the warrant of each of the assistant district attorneys. Effective July 1, 2020,
17 the annual salary of each of the several assistant district attorneys throughout the
18 state of Louisiana, including the parish of Orleans, is hereby fixed at forty-seven
19 thousand five hundred dollars payable monthly by the state treasurer upon the
20 warrant of each of the assistant district attorneys. Effective July 1, 2021, the annual
21 salary of each of the several assistant district attorneys throughout the state of
22 Louisiana, including the parish of Orleans, is hereby fixed at fifty thousand dollars
23 payable monthly by the state treasurer upon the warrant of each of the assistant
24 district attorneys. Effective July 1, 2026, the annual salary of each of the several
25 assistant district attorneys throughout the state of Louisiana, including the parish of
26 Orleans, is hereby fixed at sixty thousand dollars payable monthly by the state
27 treasurer upon the warrant of each of the assistant district attorneys. Any increase
28 in salary shall be subject to an appropriation for that purpose.

1 Section 2.A. The provisions of Section 1 of this Act shall become effective when an
2 Act of the Louisiana Legislature containing a specific appropriation of monies for the
3 implementation of the provisions of this Act becomes effective.
4 B. The provisions of this Section shall become effective upon signature by the
5 governor or, if not signed by the governor, upon expiration of the time for bills to become
6 law without signature by the governor, as provided by Article III, Section 18 of the
7 Constitution of Louisiana. If vetoed by the governor and subsequently approved by the
8 legislature, the provisions of this Section shall become effective on the day following such
9 approval.

Abstract: Increases the salary of assistant district attorneys and district attorneys on July
1, 2026.
Present law provides that, effective July 1, 2021, assistant district attorneys statewide are to
receive an annual salary of $50,000 payable monthly.
Proposed law increases the salary of the assistant district attorneys to $60,000 beginning July
1, 2026.
Present law provides that, effective July 1, 2021, district attorneys statewide are to receive
an annual salary of $55,000 payable monthly.
Proposed law increases the salary of the district attorneys to $65,000 beginning July 1,
2026.
Effective upon appropriation of funds by the legislature.
(Amends R.S. 16:10(A)(2) and 11(A)(1))
Summary of Amendments Adopted by House
The Committee Amendments Proposed by House Committee on Judiciary to the original
bill:
1. Provide that effective July 1, 2026, the district attorneys throughout the state of
La. will receive an annual salary of $65,000.
2. Provide that effective July 1, 2026, the assistant district attorneys throughout the
state of La. will receive an annual salary of $60,000.
