1 AN ACT
2 To amend and reenact R.S. 56:8(70)(b), relative to saltwater game fish; to add Atlantic
3 tarpon to the definition of saltwater game fish; to update the names of certain
4 saltwater game fish; to provide for an effective date; and to provide for related
5 matters.
6 Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana:
7 Section 1. R.S. 56:8(70)(b) is hereby amended and reenacted to read as follows:
8 §8. Definitions
9 For purposes of this Chapter, the following words and phrases have the
10 meaning ascribed to them in this Section, unless the context clearly shows a different
11 meaning:

13 (70) "Game fish" means all of the following species of freshwater and
14 saltwater fish:

16 (b) Saltwater game fish means any sailfish (Istiopharus Istiophorus
17 platypterus), blue marlin (Makaira indica nigricans), black marlin (Makaira
18 nigricans Istiompax indica), striped marlin (Tetrapturus Kajikia audax), hatchet
19 marlin or roundscale spearfish (Tetrapturus spp. georgii), white marlin (Tetrapturus
20 albidus Kajikia albida), and red drum (Sciaenops ocellatus), and Atlantic tarpon
21 (Megalops atlanticus).

23 Section 2. This Act shall become effective upon signature by the governor or, if not
24 signed by the governor, upon expiration of the time for bills to become law without signature
25 by the governor, as provided by Article III, Section 18 of the Constitution of Louisiana. If
