1 AN ACT
2 To amend and reenact R.S. 32:414(F)(2) and 415(B)(1), relative to automatic reinstatement
3 of suspended driver's licenses for unpaid traffic fees; to provide for the automatic
4 reinstatement of suspended, cancelled, or revoked driver's licenses for unpaid fees;
5 to provide for proof of payment related to traffic fines; to provide for a limitation;
6 and to provide for related matters.
7 Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana:
8 Section 1. R.S. 32:414(F)(2) and 415(B)(1) are hereby amended and reenacted to
9 read as follows:

14 (2)(a) For cause satisfactory to the department, it is hereby authorized to
15 suspend, cancel, or revoke the license of any person for a period of not more than
16 one year.
17 (b)(i) Notwithstanding any other provision of law to the contrary, a person's
18 driver's license that has been suspended, cancelled, or revoked for nonpayment of
19 fees shall be automatically reinstated if both of the following occur:

1 (aa) The person makes full payment of all fees or fines assessed by the
2 Department of Public Safety and Corrections, office of motor vehicles, that resulted
3 in the suspension, cancellation, or revocation of the driver's license.
4 (bb) The person provides proof of payment of any fees or fines, as
5 contemplated by R.S. 32:393, or any other provision under this Title.
6 (ii) The provisions of this Subparagraph do not apply to a person whose
7 driver's license has been suspended, cancelled, or revoked for operating a vehicle
8 while impaired pursuant to R.S. 14:98.

13 B.(1)(a) Any period of suspension or revocation shall automatically be
14 extended for a period of one year from the date the licensee would otherwise have
15 been entitled to apply for a new license upon his conviction for any offense involving
16 the operation of a motor vehicle committed during such period. No driver shall use
17 a license issued to him in another state or the privilege of a nonresident to drive a
18 motor vehicle in this state, upon receiving notice of his conviction, or of the entry of
19 a plea of guilty and sentence thereupon, or of the forfeiture of bail in another state
20 of federal jurisdiction for any offense, which if committed in this state, would be
21 grounds for suspension or revocation of the license.
22 (b)(i) Notwithstanding any other provision of law to the contrary, a person's
