HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION NO. 13

A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
To commend Crimestoppers of Greater New Orleans (GNO) on the occasion of its
forty-fifth anniversary and to recognize March 2026 as Louisiana Crimestoppers
Month.
WHEREAS, crime creates a path of destruction that changes lives and causes
emotional trauma, destroying the foundation for public safety and quality of life;
Louisianians stand strong in their beliefs to use everything legally in our power to ensure
that our communities are not victimized by criminals and that those who commit criminal
acts are brought to justice under state and federal laws; and
WHEREAS, Crimestoppers GNO and its board of directors take a stand against
crime by bringing together citizens, law enforcement, media, businesses, and educational
institutions to combat crime and make communities safer in Orleans, Jefferson, St. Bernard,
St. Charles, St. John the Baptist, St. James, St. Tammany, Plaquemines, and Washington
parishes and through its Safe Schools LA program that covers schools throughout Louisiana;
and
WHEREAS, Crimestoppers GNO has created an effective system for solving crimes
and has helped citizens take back control of their neighborhoods by utilizing media
awareness, an anonymous tip process, and relationships with local, state, and federal law
enforcement; and
WHEREAS, Crimestoppers GNO was chartered as a nonprofit organization in
December 1981; the organization focuses on community engagement, anonymity, support
for law enforcement, building relationships, and providing victim support; the organization's
efforts have resulted in over one hundred thousand tips, nearly twenty-seven thousand felony
arrests, and more than $2,785,650 in cash rewards for tipsters; and

WHEREAS, in 2025, Crimestoppers GNO worked alongside the Louisiana State
Police and other local and federal agencies to assist in the investigation of the May 16th
escape of ten inmates from the New Orleans Parish Justice Center; the organization offered
cash rewards and provided the public the ability to report several thousand tips
anonymously, which led to the capture of several inmates; and
WHEREAS, Crimestoppers GNO is affiliated with Crimestoppers USA and serves
a mission to provide law enforcement with information on crimes; these efforts increase
arrests in our community and lead to greater public awareness of safety issues and crime
prevention.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby
commend Crimestoppers GNO on the occasion of its forty-fifth anniversary; does hereby
recognize March 2026 as Louisiana Crimestoppers Month; and does hereby encourage all
residents to participate in local Crimestoppers efforts to prevent crime and strengthen the
state's communities.
