STUDENT/LOANS-SCHOLARSHP: Requests the Board of Regents to study the potential
establishment of a legislative scholarship program
1 A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
2 To urge and request the Board of Regents to study the establishment of a legislative
3 scholarship program and submit a written report of findings and conclusions,
4 including any recommendations for related legislation, to the House Committee on
5 Education and the Senate Committee on Education not later than March 1, 2027.
6 WHEREAS, access to postsecondary education is critical for the success of the
7 people of the state of Louisiana; and
8 WHEREAS, a scholarship to one of the state's public postsecondary education
9 institutions could provide opportunities for Louisiana's students to excel not only in
10 academics but in the workforce; and
11 WHEREAS, the student selection process for the Tulane legislative scholarship
12 program could be used as a model in the implementation of a similar program at Louisiana's
13 public postsecondary education institutions.
14 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby
15 urge and request the Board of Regents to study the establishment of a legislative scholarship
16 program and submit a written report of findings and conclusions, including any
17 recommendations for related legislation, to the House Committee on Education and the
18 Senate Committee on Education not later than March 1, 2027.
19 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the study contemplate a scholarship program
20 through which each member of the legislature would nominate one scholarship recipient for

1 each academic year for each public postsecondary education institution, the costs of which
2 would be absorbed by the respective institution.
3 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that in conducting the study, the Board of Regents
4 consult with and seek input from each public postsecondary education management board.
5 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to the
6 commissioner of higher education and the chairman of the Board of Regents.
