PORTS/NEW ORLEANS: Urges and requests the Port of New Orleans to secure additional
backup motors for the St. Claude Avenue Bridge
1 A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
2 To urge and request the Port of New Orleans to obtain additional backup motors for the
3 Saint Claude Avenue Bridge in New Orleans, Louisiana.
4 WHEREAS, burned out motors have caused the Saint Claude Avenue Bridge to be
5 closed to vehicular traffic for extended periods, contributing to traffic jams in Saint Bernard
6 Parish; and
7 WHEREAS, the Saint Claude Avenue Bridge is a critical transportation link
8 connecting Orleans Parish and Saint Bernard Parish and provides an important route for
9 residents, workers, and commercial traffic traveling between the two parishes; and
10 WHEREAS, the reliable operation of the bridge’s mechanical systems is essential
11 to ensuring the safe and efficient movement of vehicular and maritime traffic in the region;
12 and
13 WHEREAS, prolonged closures of the Saint Claude Avenue Bridge may also
14 negatively affect emergency response times, commuter travel, and local economic activity
15 in surrounding communities; and
16 WHEREAS, maintaining additional backup motors would allow the Port of New
17 Orleans to replace failed equipment more quickly and restore bridge operations in a timely
18 manner, thereby reducing traffic disruptions and improving reliability of this critical piece
19 of infrastructure.
20 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby
21 urge and request the Port of New Orleans to obtain additional backup motors for the Saint

1 Claude Avenue Bridge in New Orleans, Louisiana, to ensure the continued and sustained
2 movement of vehicular and maritime traffic in the region.
3 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to the
4 president and chief executive officer of the Port of New Orleans.
