HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION NO. 34
BY REPRESENTATIVE DESHOTEL AND SENATOR CLOUD
A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
To commemorate the two hundred nineteenth anniversary of Avoyelles Parish.
WHEREAS, established on March 31, 1807, Avoyelles Parish is one of the original
parishes of the Territory of Orleans which laid the foundation for a community whose
history stretches across more than two centuries; and
WHEREAS, the lands of Avoyelles were home to the indigenous Avoyel Tribe,
whose name the parish proudly carries, and later welcomed early French, Spanish, and
Acadian settlers who established farms, churches, and communities along the fertile banks
of Bayou des Glaises; and
WHEREAS, through generations of perseverance and faith, these early settlements
grew into the towns, villages, and rural communities that continue to define the character and
culture of Avoyelles Parish today; and
WHEREAS, the people of Avoyelles Parish contribute to the agricultural strength,
cultural traditions, and spiritual life that make Louisiana unique and preserve customs,
cuisine, music, and family traditions that reflect the parish's diverse heritage; and
WHEREAS, as Avoyelles Parish celebrates its two hundred nineteenth anniversary,
its citizens honor the legacy of those who came before while continuing to build a vibrant
future for generations yet to come.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby
commemorate the two hundred nineteenth anniversary of Avoyelles Parish and does hereby
encourage Louisianians to visit the parish and experience its rich history, character, and
culture.
