EARLY CHILDHOOD: Suspends certain laws relative to the licensure of nonpublic
prekindergarten programs as early learning centers
1 A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
2 To suspend until sixty days after final adjournment of the 2027 Regular Session of the
3 Legislature of Louisiana the provisions of R.S. 17:24.8(B)(2) relative to the licensure
4 of nonpublic prekindergarten programs as early learning centers.
5 WHEREAS, R.S. 17:407.31 et seq. provides for the licensing of early learning
6 centers, and R.S. 17:24.8(B)(2) as amended and reenacted by Act No. 409 of the 2025
7 Regular Session of the Legislature of Louisiana requires that all nonpublic prekindergarten
8 programs be licensed as early learning centers; and
9 WHEREAS, some nonpublic schools have expressed concerns regarding potential
10 operational barriers to the implementation of the licensure requirements.
11 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana hereby suspends
12 the provisions of the provisions of R.S. 17:24.8(B)(2) relative to the licensure of nonpublic
13 prekindergarten programs as early learning centers.
14 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this suspension shall become effective upon
15 adoption of this Resolution and shall extend through the sixtieth day after final adjournment
16 of the 2027 Regular Session of the Legislature of Louisiana.
