HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION NO. 57

A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
To commend Barney Arceneaux on the occasion of his retirement.
WHEREAS, it is with immense pride and profound gratitude that the Legislature of
Louisiana recognizes Barney Arceneaux for dedicating more than five decades to public
service and to commend him on the occasion of his retirement; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Arceneaux served in law enforcement from 1972 to 2005; he served
as the assistant chief of the Gonzales Police Department from 1979 to 1983 and as chief of
the department from 1984 to 1992; he worked in major criminal operations with the
Ascension Parish Sheriff's Office from 1993 to 1999, served as a sergeant at arms for the
Louisiana House of Representatives in 2004, and worked with the Southern Anti-Terrorist
Regional Training Academy from 2004 to 2005; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Arceneaux served as the director of planning and development for
Ascension Parish from 1999 to 2004 and worked as the district director for Congressman
Charlie Melancon from 2005 to 2008; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Arceneaux served from 2008 to 2024 as mayor of the city of
Gonzales, a role in which he provided a vision and direction for the city's growth and quality
of life; during his tenure as mayor, he served as the president of the Louisiana Municipal
Association from 2016 to 2017; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Arceneaux most recently served as the executive director of the
Louisiana Municipal Association, where he provided mentorship and guidance to local
elected officials and staff and strengthened the relationship between the state and local
governments; he has consistently demonstrated a steadfast commitment to strengthening
local government, supporting municipal leaders, and improving the quality of life for the
citizens he served; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Arceneaux has been a member of numerous professional
organizations, including the International Association of Chiefs of Police and the Louisiana
Sheriffs' Association; and
WHEREAS, in addition to Mr. Arceneaux's dedication to public service, he is a
devoted father and grandfather; he is a United States Marine Corps veteran who served as
a military policeman from 1970 to 1976; and
WHEREAS, Barney Arceneaux is deserving of recognition for his leadership and
lifelong dedication to public service in Louisiana.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby
commend Barney Arceneaux on the occasion of his retirement; does hereby express
enduring appreciation for his outstanding contributions to the city of Gonzales and the state
of Louisiana; and does hereby extend sincere wishes that he remains prosperous as he begins
a new phase of life in retirement.
