A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
To memorialize the United States Congress to expedite and prioritize research, clinical
trials, and treatment development related to Acute Myeloid Leukemia and to
designate such efforts as the "Jonas A. Feeley Act".
WHEREAS, Acute Myeloid Leukemia is a rare and aggressive blood cancer
characterized by the rapid proliferation of abnormal myeloid cells resulting in
life-threatening complications and a high mortality rate; and
WHEREAS, Acute Myeloid Leukemia often progresses within days or weeks of
diagnosis, leaving patients and families with extremely limited windows for treatment and
intervention; and
WHEREAS, despite advancements in oncology and hematology, the overall five-year
survival rate for Acute Myeloid Leukemia remains approximately thirty percent,
underscoring the urgent need for expanded research, improved therapies, and accelerated
clinical trials; and
WHEREAS, Jonas A. Feeley was unexpectedly diagnosed with Acute Myeloid
Leukemia on December 17, 2025, and passed away on December 18, 2025, demonstrating
the devastating speed, severity, and unpredictability of this disease; and
WHEREAS, Jonas A. Feeley was a devoted husband, family member, and friend
whose life, character, and service left a lasting impact on his loved ones and community; and

WHEREAS, increased federal investment in early detection, biomedical research,
and innovative treatment options for Acute Myeloid Leukemia has the potential to save lives,
improve outcomes, and reduce the emotional and financial burden on families nationwide;
and
WHEREAS, veterans and other populations with environmental and occupational
exposures may face elevated risks for hematologic malignancies, including Acute Myeloid
Leukemia; and
WHEREAS, state legislatures have a long-standing role in urging federal action on
matters of national health importance and in advocating for policies that advance medical
research and public welfare.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby
memorialize the Congress of the United States, the National Institutes of Health, the
National Cancer Institute, and the Department of Health and Human Services to expedite and
prioritize research, clinical trials, and treatment development related to Acute Myeloid
Leukemia.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that such accelerated federal efforts be collectively
designated and recognized as the "Jonas A. Feeley Act", in honor of his life, and in
recognition of all individuals and families affected by Acute Myeloid Leukemia.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to the
presiding officers of the Senate and the House of Representatives of the Congress of the
United States of America, the Louisiana congressional delegation, the secretary of the United
States Department of Health and Human Services, and the directors of the National Institutes
of Health and the National Cancer Institute.
