BY REPRESENTATIVES BOYD AND LAFLEUR
A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
To designate February 27, 2025, as Caleb Wilson Day in Louisiana.
WHEREAS, Caleb Jayden Wilson was born on November 1, 2004, to Corey Wilson,
Sr., and Urania Brown Wilson of Kenner, Louisiana; he was baptized into the Christian faith
by Reverend Mitchell J. Stevens at Pilgrim Baptist Church on January 3, 2010; and
WHEREAS, Caleb was a gifted student whose academic ability showed from an
early age; he discovered a passion for playing the trumpet while attending Edward Hynes
Charter School in New Orleans and was accepted into a program run by The Roots of Music,
a nonprofit organization that empowers kids through music education and mentorship, which
helped him hone his innate musical ability and gave him the opportunity to perform in
France; and
WHEREAS, Caleb graduated from Warren Easton High School, where he was a
member of the school band, band captain, and section leader for the trumpet players; he
maintained a desire to continue refining his musical craft, and as a result, he was accepted
into the Trombone Shorty Foundation; the foundation allowed him many opportunities to
perform across the United States; he performed in Havana, Cuba, in 2019; and
WHEREAS, before graduating from high school, Caleb earned a certificate in
general studies from Delgado Community College through Warren Easton High School's
dual enrollment program; he attended the Southern University Band Camp three times and
was recruited to become a future member of the university's world-renowned band, "The
Human Jukebox"; and
WHEREAS, Caleb was a founding member of the 110 Brass Band, and he performed
for Mademoiselle Dwyn's School of Dance, various cotillions, and other events; he was a
member of Nu Phi Omicron, Inc., a nonprofit organization that helps Louisiana's college and
high school musicians grow and excel in their craft; and

WHEREAS, Caleb was a member of the National Honor Society, student council,
and the Warren Easton baseball team; he competed on the New Orleans Recreation
Department (NORD) swim team and worked as a NORD lifeguard; and
WHEREAS, at the time of his passing, Caleb was a junior majoring in mechanical
engineering at Southern University and A&M College in Baton Rouge; he was a member
of the National Society of Black Engineers and a junior usher and active member of Pilgrim
Baptist Church's Youth Ministry; and
WHEREAS, Caleb was able to live out his dream as a member of the Southern
University Band, and he performed and marched on the field of the Caesars Superdome
during Super Bowl LIX; he also played during the nationally-televised "Bayou Classic"
games in New Orleans; and
WHEREAS, Caleb is survived by his parents, Corey and Urania Wilson; siblings,
Coren and Corey, Jr.; grandmothers, Eulalia Porter and Veronica Temple; grandfather,
Albert Brown; godparents, Reverend Richard Eugene Wilson, Yolanda Curtis Wilson, Alicia
Alexander, and Jeffrey Alexander; and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, extended relatives,
and friends; he will be deeply missed, but his memory shall live on in the hearts and minds
of those who were privileged to have known him.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby
designate February 27, 2025, as Caleb Wilson Day in Louisiana; does hereby posthumously
commend Caleb's inspiring legacy as a mentor, musician, and scholar; and does hereby
recognize that the spirit of his music and the legacy of his love shall never fade.
