HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION NO. 88

A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
To recognize April 28, 2026, as Nurses Day and May 6 through May 12, 2026, as National
Nurses Week in Louisiana.
WHEREAS, the "Power of Nurses" is the theme for Nurses Day at the Capitol; and
WHEREAS, over sixty-six thousand registered nurses, including over ten thousand
advanced practice registered nurses, are actively licensed in Louisiana; and
WHEREAS, the Louisiana State Nurses Association is a leading voice for healthcare
advocacy in the state for nurses, healthcare settings, and citizens; and
WHEREAS, the Louisiana State Nurses Association has established an expanding
program of advocacy that collaborates with other professional organizations and solicits
input from nurses statewide; and
WHEREAS, the Louisiana State Nurses Association promotes ethical care and high
standards for the practice of professional nursing; and
WHEREAS, the Louisiana State Nurses Association advocates for the inclusion of
registered nurses on decision making boards and commissions; and
WHEREAS, the Louisiana State Nurses Association advocates for increasing access
to primary and preventive healthcare; and
WHEREAS, the Louisiana State Nurses Association advocates for access to quality
maternal-child healthcare; and
WHEREAS, the Louisiana State Nurses Association advocates for access to quality
mental healthcare; and
WHEREAS, the Louisiana State Nurses Association advocates for a safe work
environment that promotes the wellbeing of nurses; and

WHEREAS, the Louisiana State Nurses Association supports the American Nurses
Association's Nursing Code of Ethics, which calls upon nurses to "respect the inherent
dignity, worth, unique attributes, and human rights of all individuals"; and
WHEREAS, the Louisiana State Nurses Association advocates for support for
nursing workforce development to create a sustainable healthcare workforce; and
WHEREAS, registered nurses are well-suited to address the diverse and emerging
healthcare needs of the population in a wide range of settings; and
WHEREAS, registered nurses make a difference by influencing and shaping health
policy decisions that ensure all Louisiana residents have access to safe, high-quality,
affordable healthcare coverage.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby
declare April 28, 2026, as Nurses Day at the State Capitol and May 6 through May 12, 2026,
as National Nurses Week in Louisiana.
