BY REPRESENTATIVE SPELL AND SENATOR MCMATH
A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
To designate May 2026 as Mental Health Awareness Month in Louisiana.
WHEREAS, mental health wellness is a key component of an individual's ability to
manage emotions, build relationships, contribute to society, and cope with the challenges life
presents; and
WHEREAS, mental health conditions can significantly disrupt an individual's life
and lead to serious and life-threatening outcomes when left untreated; and
WHEREAS, each year, one in five adults experiences a mental health concern, and
symptomatic individuals often experience delays with access to effective treatment and care;
and
WHEREAS, individuals, families, communities, and organizations, including local
mental health partners such as NAMI Southeast Louisiana, each play a role in supporting
mental wellness and reducing the stigma around mental illness; and
WHEREAS, by supporting community-wide initiatives and public education focused
on mental health wellness, Louisiana can improve the lives of individuals and families
affected by mental health conditions.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby
designate May 2026 as Mental Health Awareness Month in Louisiana; does hereby
recognize the need for appropriate and accessible services for all people with mental health
conditions; does hereby urge citizens, government agencies, public and private institutions,

businesses, and schools in Louisiana to recommit to increasing awareness and understanding
of mental health; and does hereby encourage Louisianians to take steps to protect their
mental health.
