HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION NO. 92

A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
To commemorate the one hundredth anniversary of the Louisiana Municipal Association.
WHEREAS, on January 28, 1926, mayors from cities, towns, and villages across
Louisiana convened in Alexandria as the Louisiana Conference of Mayors to establish a
unified voice for local government; this organization became the Louisiana Municipal
Association (LMA); and
WHEREAS, the LMA was founded to foster cooperation and success among
municipalities and to provide a forum for addressing matters of mutual concern affecting
local government throughout the state; and
WHEREAS, for the past one hundred years, LMA municipalities have demonstrated
dedication, integrity, and innovation in public service while promoting economic growth,
civic engagement, infrastructure development, and quality of life for Louisiana communities;
and
WHEREAS, the mission of the LMA is anchored in four pillars: education, service,
training, and advocacy for its member mayors, related organizations, and affiliates; its
mission serves to strengthen the effectiveness of municipal leadership statewide; and
WHEREAS, the LMA provides professional guidance, local government advocacy
at the legislature, support from legislators across the state, and collaborative problem-solving
with key local government partners to champion municipalities and respond to changing
economic, environmental, infrastructure, and public service needs; and
WHEREAS, LMA municipalities continuously adapt to evolving challenges while
upholding the principles of local self-governance, transparency, and accountability, which
has established a lasting standard of excellence in municipal government.

THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby
commemorate the one hundredth anniversary of the Louisiana Municipal Association; does
hereby recognize a century of service, progress, community leadership, and a unified voice
for local government; and does hereby express enduring appreciation for its continuing
mission of education, training, and advocacy.
