BY REPRESENTATIVE MILLER
A RESOLUTION
To recognize March 17, 2026, as Nurse Practitioner Day at the state capitol.
WHEREAS, nurse practitioners serve as trusted healthcare providers and play a
critical role in delivering care to patients across this state; and
WHEREAS, nurse practitioners work to expand access in communities across this
state, promote equity in health care, and improve health outcomes for all; and
WHEREAS, patients across the United States rely on more than four hundred thirty
thousand licensed nurse practitioners, including more than six thousand practicing in
Louisiana, to diagnose, manage, and treat acute and chronic health conditions; and
WHEREAS, nurse practitioners provide high-quality primary, acute, and specialty
healthcare services while emphasizing health promotion, disease prevention, health
education, and counseling, thereby guiding patients to make smarter health and lifestyle
choices every day; and
WHEREAS, the confidence patients place in nurse practitioners is demonstrated by
the more than one billion patient visits made annually to nurse practitioners across the
United States; and
WHEREAS, more than five decades of research have demonstrated the high quality
of care provided by nurse practitioners; and
WHEREAS, modernized state laws and policies that enable the full utilization of
nurse practitioners improve health outcomes and support a more accessible, efficient,
cost-effective, and high-quality healthcare system; and
WHEREAS, more than half the nation, including twenty-seven states, the District of
Columbia, Guam, and the Northern Mariana Islands, has adopted full practice authority
legislation, offering patients full and direct access to the outstanding care provided by nurse
practitioners; and

WHEREAS, leading governmental and policy entities, including the National
Academy of Medicine, National Council of State Boards of Nursing, National Governors
Association, and Federal Trade Commission, have taken notice of the benefits of providing
patients full and direct access to health care delivered by nurse practitioners; and
WHEREAS, nurse practitioners serve as the provider of choice for many Louisiana
residents and play a pivotal role in the health and welfare of our communities.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the
Legislature of Louisiana does hereby recognize Tuesday, March 17, 2026, as Nurse
Practitioner Day at the state capitol and does hereby proudly recognize and honor the service
of nurse practitioners in this state.
