HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 33

A RESOLUTION
To commend Bishop-Elect Jonathan Everett on the occasion of his elevation to the office of
Bishop-Elect at Rock of Ages Baptist Church of New Orleans.
WHEREAS, it is most fitting to recognize Bishop-Elect Jonathan Everett for his
dedication to ministry and to commend him on the occasion of his elevation to the office of
Bishop-Elect at Rock of Ages Baptist Church of New Orleans; and
WHEREAS, Bishop-Elect Everett is a son of the city of New Orleans who strives to
faithfully represent and give back to the community he was born in; he began as one of the
youngest youth leaders to be appointed by the Southern Baptist Convention and now serves
as the pastor of Rock of Ages Baptist Church; and
WHEREAS, at the time of Bishop-Elect Everett's appointment, Rock of Ages had
three faithful members; today, the congregation has grown to more than three thousand eight
hundred members, and the church is considered one of the fastest growing religious
institutions in Louisiana; and
WHEREAS, under Bishop-Elect Everett's leadership, Rock of Ages has become a
beacon of positivity in the city of New Orleans; the church sponsors large-scale food
giveaways, gas giveaways, and sneaker giveaways for school-aged children; the church hosts
an annual rally to support educators as they return to the classroom following summer break;
and
WHEREAS, under Bishop-Elect Everett, Rock of Ages has supported local colleges
and universities, assisted members with becoming first-time homeowners, and provided
scholarships to parents returning to school to complete their education; and

WHEREAS, Bishop-Elect Everett has extended his ministry beyond New Orleans
and has become a sought-after speaker at domestic and international events; he has
ministered in numerous international locations, including the Bahamas, Mexico, Dominican
Republic, and Haiti, and has undertaken missions in regions including East Africa,
Colombia, and South America; he has also served as a speaker on numerous international
conference panels; and
WHEREAS, Bishop-Elect Everett has garnered the attention of local governments
and civic leaders, and his reputation has afforded him the opportunity to serve as a spiritual
advisor for past and present city officials, department heads, and state representatives; and
WHEREAS, Bishop-Elect Everett is the first African American to be appointed
overseer of the local retention rate initiative for students at the University of New Orleans;
he directs the mission work of the Merge Community Development Corporation, serves as
CEO and president of Prestige Environment Management Services, and sits on nonprofit
boards throughout the city; he also founded the iMatter Leadership Institute and authored
two books; and
WHEREAS, Bishop-Elect Everett received a bachelor of theology from Washington
Bible College; he is a devoted son to his mother, Wanda Everett; dedicated father to his son,
Jonathan Michael Everett, Jr.; and a brother to his eleven siblings; and
WHEREAS, Bishop-Elect Jonathan Everett is a guiding light for his congregation
and the New Orleans community, and he is most deserving of the highest recognition for his
dedicated ministry.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the
Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend Bishop-Elect Jonathan Everett on the
occasion of his elevation to the office of Bishop-Elect at Rock of Ages Baptist Church of
New Orleans and does hereby extend sincere wishes that he remain prosperous as he begins
a new chapter in his ministry.
