A RESOLUTION
To express the condolences of the House of Representatives upon the death of Leroy
Cavalier.
WHEREAS, it is with immense sadness and profound regret that the House of
Representatives of Legislature of Louisiana has learned of the passing, on December 19,
2025, of Leroy Cavalier; and
WHEREAS, Leroy Cavalier was born on December 10, 1951, in Starhill, Louisiana,
to Reverend Ophelia and Mary Cavalier; he was baptized by Reverend Eddie Turner of
Independence Baptist Church in St. Francisville, Louisiana; and
WHEREAS, as a child, Leroy and his family moved from Starhill to Baton Rouge,
and he lived in the capital city for the remainder of his life; he was educated in the East
Baton Rouge Parish School System and graduated from Scotlandville High School in 1970;
and
WHEREAS, after graduating and working a series of jobs, Mr. Cavalier began
working in the dialysis field at Earl K. Long Hospital; he worked in dialysis with Fresenius
Medical Care for many years before retiring; and
WHEREAS, after retiring, Mr. Cavalier began working for the Louisiana House of
Representatives; he was a longtime employee of the House and primarily manned the

northeast bollards station; he most recently served as a capitol security specialist with the
Capitol Security Office, and he was beloved by his colleagues, owing to his sincere
kindness, and always had a smile on his face; and
WHEREAS, Leroy was an incredibly faithful man whose favorite saying was, "The
good Lord gone to take care of me"; he served as a deacon at Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church
until moving his membership to Second Baptist Church, where he served in the men's
ministry, sang in the male chorus, and served as an usher; he later joined Renew Church in
Baker, Louisiana, and participated in Wednesday night Bible study classes, where he gave
insightful commentary and shared words of encouragement with others; and
WHEREAS, Leroy Cavalier is survived by his daughters, Sherilyn Taylor, Phala
Cavalier-James (Donell), Rochalette Moore (Raymond Jr.), and Vanesha Cavalier;
grandchildren, L'Darrion Taylor, Peyton Taylor, James Smith V, Elijah Cavalier, Cam'ron
Cavalier, Michaela Spears, Haleigh Cavalier, Gavin James, Amari James, Raymond Moore
III, and Emmanuel Moore; great-grandchildren, Genesis Taylor and Sophia Taylor; sisters,
Ophelia Cavalier, Hattie Cavalier, Gladys Brown, Jenron Emery (Calvin Sr.), and Arleshia
Armstrong ; brothers, Michael Cavalier (Dale), Jesse Cavalier Sr. (Vickie), and Kevin
Cavalier (Connie); godchild, Leroy Jamel Cavalier (Tatayana); and a host of nieces,
nephews, aunts, and cousins; and
WHEREAS, Leroy Cavalier was a truly dedicated public servant and beloved
member of the Louisiana State Capitol family; he will be deeply missed, but the legacy of
his service to the state shall live on in the hearts and minds of those who were privileged to
have known him.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the
Legislature of Louisiana does hereby express heartfelt condolences on the death of Leroy
Cavalier; does hereby offer enduring appreciation for Mr. Cavalier's highly effective service
as a longtime employee of the House and Capitol Security Office; and does hereby extend
sincere wishes that his family, friends, colleagues, and loved ones find comfort in their
shared memories of his beautiful life.
