HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 68

A RESOLUTION
To commend Elizabeth Kimball Lewis on the occasion of her one hundredth birthday.
WHEREAS, it is most fitting to recognize Elizabeth Kimball Lewis of Maringouin,
Louisiana, and to commend her on reaching the extraordinary milestone of one hundred
years of life; and
WHEREAS, Elizabeth Kimball Lewis was born on March 10, 1926, in Maringouin
to Georgie and H.M. Kimball, Sr.; her father served in the Legislature of Louisiana as a
member of the Senate; and
WHEREAS, Ms. Lewis attended Shady Grove Elementary School; as a child, she
loved listening to music on the radio and took dance classes, and she began piano lessons
around the age of seven; she attended Rosedale United Methodist Church with her mother
and siblings and played piano at the church until its closing in 2016; and
WHEREAS, Ms. Lewis attended Shady Grove High School from eighth through
eleventh grades; she participated in the Shady Grove Girls' Chorus and graduated in 1943;
she attended Soule Business College in New Orleans, and on returning to Maringouin, began
working for Rathborne, Hair, and Ridgway, a veneer company; she later worked in the office
of H.M. Kimball Esso, also known as Kimball Oil Company, and retired in 1999; and
WHEREAS, Ms. Lewis met the love of her life, Roy Lewis, in 1943; they married
on June 12, 1946, and shared sixty-seven years together until his passing; they opened Roy's
Café on Highway 190 in Livonia, Louisiana, and were blessed with four children, eleven
grandchildren, three step-grandchildren, twenty-one great-grandchildren, eleven step-great-
grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren; and

WHEREAS, Ms. Lewis has been a member of Maringouin Home Demonstration
Club, Maringouin Twin Bayous Lioness Club, Maringouin Lions Club, and Eastern Stars;
she has been a member and served on the board of Rosedale United Methodist Church; and
WHEREAS, today, Ms. Lewis enjoys birdwatching in her backyard, and her most
cherished moments are those spent with her family, visitors, and her Chihuahua, Lola; she
is a truly inspiring woman who is most deserving of the highest recognition for reaching this
incredible milestone in life.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the
Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend Elizabeth Kimball Lewis on the occasion
of her one hundredth birthday; does hereby recognize her steadfast faith, enduring love for
her family, and invaluable contributions to the Maringouin community; and does hereby
extend sincere wishes that she remain prosperous as she begins a new chapter in life as a
member of the exclusive club of Louisiana's centenarians.
