HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 69
BY REPRESENTATIVE BRYANT
A RESOLUTION
To designate Jeanerette as the French Bread Capital of Louisiana.
WHEREAS, the city of Jeanerette in Iberia Parish, Louisiana, was incorporated in
1878 and has a culturally rich and colorful history; and
WHEREAS, Jeanerette is the home of LeJeune's Bakery, which has produced
scratch-made French bread since its founding in 1884; and
WHEREAS, five generations of LeJeune family members have carried on the legacy
of the family bakery and established the city of Jeanerette as the premier source of French
bread in Louisiana and beyond; and
WHEREAS, LeJeune's Bakery is the first bakery in Louisiana to be named in the
National Register of Historic Places; and
WHEREAS, the city of Jeanerette is synonymous with the production of high-quality
French bread, and it is most fitting to recognize the city for this distinction.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the
Legislature of Louisiana does hereby designate Jeanerette as the French Bread Capital of
Louisiana.
