HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 94
BY REPRESENTATIVE COATES
A RESOLUTION
To designate November 16, 2026, as Sanfilippo Syndrome Awareness Day in Louisiana.
WHEREAS, Sanfilippo Syndrome, also known as MPS III, is a rare and devastating
genetic disorder that primarily affects children and causes progressive neurological decline,
severe cognitive impairment, and reduced life expectancy; and
WHEREAS, World Sanfilippo Syndrome Awareness Day is observed annually on
November sixteenth and aims to raise awareness about this rare disease, support affected
families, and encourage research into treatments and a cure; and
WHEREAS, educating the community about Sanfilippo Syndrome is an integral
aspect of the efforts to foster understanding, compassion, and support for those living with
the condition and their families; and
WHEREAS, efforts to advance research and increase public awareness play a critical
role in the search for effective treatments and are essential to improving the quality of life
for individuals with Sanfilippo Syndrome; and
WHEREAS, on Sanfilippo Syndrome Awareness Day, Louisiana honors the strength
and resilience of individuals and families affected by this genetic disorder and recognizes
the tireless efforts of the researchers, healthcare professionals, and advocates who have
dedicated themselves to making a difference.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the
Legislature of Louisiana does hereby designate November 16, 2026, as Sanfilippo Syndrome
Awareness Day in Louisiana and does hereby encourage all Louisianians to join in raising
awareness, supporting affected families, and advocating for continued research efforts.
