HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 95
BY REPRESENTATIVE CARRIER
A RESOLUTION
To designate Wednesday, April 8, 2026, as Alzheimer's and Related Dementias Awareness
Day in Louisiana.
WHEREAS, Alzheimer's disease is a progressive neurodegenerative brain disorder
which robs individuals of their memories, leads to significant mental and physical
impairment, and impacts caregivers of loved ones who are living with the disease; and
WHEREAS, the Alzheimer's Association leads the way in the effort to end
Alzheimer's disease and all other dementias by accelerating global research to drive risk
reduction and early detection and maximize quality care and support; and
WHEREAS, Alzheimer's and Related Dementias Awareness Day serves as an
opportunity to educate Louisiana residents on dementia, support those affected by the
disease, and take proactive measures to maintain brain health; and
WHEREAS, Alzheimer's disease is a public health crisis in Louisiana; and
WHEREAS, ninety-five thousand Louisiana adults aged sixty-five and older are
living with Alzheimer's, and 13.6% of people aged forty-five and older have subjective
cognitive decline; and
WHEREAS, one hundred sixty-eight thousand caregivers are providing two hundred
fifty-six million hours of unpaid care at a value of $3,428,000,000; and
WHEREAS, it is most fitting to recognize the stories, strengths, and efforts of
individuals, advocates, families, and caregivers impacted by Alzheimer's disease.

THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the
Legislature of Louisiana does hereby designate Wednesday, April 8, 2026, as Alzheimer's
and Related Dementias Awareness Day in Louisiana and does hereby encourage citizens to
support initiatives that support individuals with Alzheimer's disease and other forms of
dementia and their families.
