1 AN ACT
2 To amend and reenact R.S. 15:624.1(D), relative to submission of sexual assault collection
3 kits; to provide that a district attorney's office must provide certain information to
4 state police under certain circumstances; and to provide for related matters.
5 Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana:
6 Section 1. R.S. 15:624.1(D) is hereby amended and reenacted to read as follows:
7 §624.1. Submission of sexual assault collection kits

9 D. The office of state police may use a phased implementation process in
10 order to launch the system and facilitate entry and use of the system for required
11 participants. The office of state police may phase initial participation according to
12 the region or volume. All entities, including law enforcement, district attorney
13 offices, and healthcare providers having custody of sexual assault collection kits,
14 shall provide all required information to the tracking system and fully participate in
15 the system no later than July 1, 2024. The office of state police shall submit a report
16 on the current status and plan for launching the system, including the plan for phased
17 implementation, to the Louisiana Sexual Assault Oversight Commission, the Senate
18 Committee on Judiciary B, the House Committee on Administration of Criminal
19 Justice, and the governor no later than January 1, 2024.
