SENATE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION NO. 32

A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
To express sincere and heartfelt condolences of the Legislature of Louisiana upon the
passing of Dr. Richard Edward Landry and to commend and honor his life, legacy,
and service.
WHEREAS, it is with deep sorrow and profound regret that the members of the
Legislature of Louisiana recognize the passing of Dr. Richard Edward Landry on August 14,
2025, at the age of eighty-one; and
WHEREAS, Richard Landry was born on October 4, 1943, in Lake Charles,
Louisiana, to Lee and Willie Landry, and lived a life firmly rooted in the rich culture, faith,
and community spirit of Southwest Louisiana; and
WHEREAS, affectionately known as "Doc", he distinguished himself early as both
a student and athlete at Lake Charles High School, where he was a member of the 1958 State
Championship football team, learning lessons of discipline, teamwork, and perseverance that
would guide him throughout his life; and
WHEREAS, it was during his school years that he met Gaye Revelle, the love of his
life and steadfast partner of fifty-seven years, with whom he built a marriage grounded in
devotion, faith, and shared purpose; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Landry answered the call to serve his nation with courage and
humility as a medic in the United States Army during the Vietnam War, exemplifying
extraordinary bravery and compassion by tending to the wounded in the midst of danger; and
WHEREAS, following his honorable military service, he returned home determined
to fulfill his calling as a healer, completing his education at McNeese State University and
earning his medical degree from LSU School of Medicine; and
WHEREAS, he completed his residency at Moss Regional Hospital and devoted

more than three decades to the practice of family medicine in Lake Charles, where he
became far more than a physician; he was a trusted confidant, counselor, and friend to
generations of patients; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Landry possessed a rare and remarkable gift for blending medical
expertise with genuine compassion, always taking the time to listen, to comfort, and to treat
not just illness, but the whole person; and
WHEREAS, guided by an unwavering Christian faith, he was a devoted member of
Trinity Baptist Church, where he served faithfully as a deacon, Sunday school teacher, and
trustee, offering spiritual guidance and friendship to countless individuals; and
WHEREAS, his commitment to service extended far beyond his local community
through his work with the International Mission Board of the Southern Baptist Convention,
participating in medical mission trips across the globe to bring healing, hope, and the
message of Christ to those in need; and
WHEREAS, his enthusiasm for life was evident in every endeavor, including his
service as team doctor for Barbe High School football, where he combined his love of sports
with his dedication to the health and well-being of young people; and
WHEREAS, above all else, Dr. Landry was a devoted husband, father, and
grandfather, whose greatest joy came from his family, including his beloved wife, Gaye
Revelle Landry; his daughters, Laurel Carleton and her husband Mark, Wendy Lechtenberg
and her husband Keith, Leslie Bradley and her husband Rex, and Kelly Ortiz and her
husband Emilio; and his nine cherished grandchildren, Camille and Richard Carleton,
Madeline Stewart and her husband Vance, Abbie and Callie Lechtenberg, and Bella, Julia,
Anna, and Clara Bradley, each of whom carries forward his legacy of love, faith, and
service; and
WHEREAS, his life stands as a testament to the enduring truth found in Scripture,
"Well done, good and faithful servant. You have been faithful over a little; I will set you
over much. Enter into the joy of your master" (Matthew 25:23), words that reflect the
faithful and servant-hearted life he so beautifully lived; and
WHEREAS, the people of Louisiana are richer for his presence and better for his
example, and his legacy will continue to inspire all who knew him.

THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby
commend and honor the life of Richard Edward Landry and does hereby recognize Dr.
Landry as a man of deep and abiding faith, a dedicated physician, a proud veteran, and a
beloved family man whose contributions to his community and his state will not be
forgotten.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby extend
sincere and heartfelt condolences to his wife, Gaye Revelle Landry, his children,
grandchildren, extended family, and all who were blessed to know him.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to the
family of Dr. Richard Edward Landry as an expression of enduring respect and sympathy.
