A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
To commend John Brady on being inducted into the 2026 class of the Louisiana Sports Hall
of Fame.
WHEREAS, each year the Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame in Natchitoches, Louisiana
collaborates with the Louisiana Sports Writers Association in selecting a limited number of
sports figures who embody the character, skill, talent, and accomplishment worthy of being
named to the Hall of Fame; and
WHEREAS, the 2026 Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame Induction Class includes John
Brady; and
WHEREAS, Coach John Brady has enjoyed a distinguished career in collegiate
basketball spanning more than twenty-five seasons, during which he demonstrated
exceptional leadership, integrity, and dedication to the development of student-athletes; and
WHEREAS, a native of McComb, Mississippi, Coach Brady began his coaching
career in Louisiana high school basketball before advancing to the collegiate ranks, where
he served as the men's basketball head coach at Samford University, Arkansas State, and
most notably Louisiana State University; and
WHEREAS, over the course of his collegiate coaching career, Coach Brady compiled
an impressive overall record of 402 wins and 325 losses before concluding his coaching
tenure following the 2016 season; and
WHEREAS, Coach Brady experienced his greatest success at Louisiana State
University, where he served for more than ten seasons and compiled a record of 192 wins
and 139 losses while rebuilding a program that had previously faced National Collegiate
Athletic Association (NCAA) probation and scholarship reductions; and

WHEREAS, under his leadership, the LSU Tigers returned to national prominence,
earning four appearances in the NCAA Division I Men's Basketball Tournament and two
berths in the National Invitation Tournament while capturing Southeastern Conference
(SEC) regular season championships in 2000 and 2006 and the SEC Western Division title
in 2005; and
WHEREAS, Coach Brady led LSU to one of the most memorable seasons in
program history in 2006 when the Tigers advanced through the NCAA Tournament to the
Final Four, becoming only the third LSU men's basketball coach to guide the program to the
national semifinals; and
WHEREAS, that remarkable tournament run included victories over top-seeded
Duke Blue Devils and second-seeded Texas Longhorns before LSU ultimately fell to the
UCLA Bruins in the national semifinal game; and
WHEREAS, Coach Brady achieved success at Samford University, guiding the
Bulldogs to consecutive conference championships in 1996 and 1997, and later at Arkansas
State University, where his teams captured Sun Belt Conference regular-season titles in 2011
and 2013; and
WHEREAS, through his dedication to excellence, his commitment to
student-athletes, and his many contributions to collegiate athletics, Coach Brady has left a
lasting legacy in the sport of basketball and in the state of Louisiana.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby
commend John Brady on being inducted into the 2026 class of the Louisiana Sports Hall of
Fame.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to
John Brady.
