Month in the state of Louisiana.
WHEREAS, the Louisiana Recreation and Parks Association's theme for Recreation
and Parks Month is "Build Together, Play Together"; and
WHEREAS, parks and recreation are essential to Louisiana's local communities

infrastructure for resiliency in the face of natural disasters and climate change; and
WHEREAS, local parks departments across the state provide families with space to
gather and make memories, opportunities to introduce children to sports and nature, and a

state's natural outdoor beauty, exercise, and take in fresh air; and
WHEREAS, recreation and parks help to grow a community's economic prosperity
by increasing property values, expanding the local tax base, generating tourism, attracting
and retaining businesses, and reducing crime; and
WHEREAS, local parks play a fundamental role in promoting the environmental
well-being of Louisiana communities through the conservation of wildlife habitats and
native flora, and also provide green infrastructure to mitigate the effects of localized
flooding; and
WHEREAS, two park systems in Louisiana are part of the less than two percent of
American park systems that have received accreditation through the National Recreation and
Park Association: the New Orleans Recreation Development Commission and the capital
region's Recreation and Park Commission for the Parish of East Baton Rouge (BREC); and
WHEREAS, local recreation and parks departments from across Louisiana will join
