SENATE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION NO. 72

A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
To commend Todd McClure on being inducted into the 2026 class of the Louisiana Sports
Hall of Fame.
WHEREAS, each year the Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame in Natchitoches, Louisiana,
collaborates with the Louisiana Sports Writers Association in selecting a limited number of
sports figures who embody the character, skill, talent, and accomplishment worthy of being
named to the Hall of Fame; and
WHEREAS, the 2026 Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame Induction Class includes Todd
McClure; and
WHEREAS, Todd McClure, a native of Baton Rouge, distinguished himself as an
exceptional athlete, leader, and competitor whose accomplishments on the football field
brought pride to his hometown and the state of Louisiana; and
WHEREAS, McClure first rose to prominence as a standout three-sport athlete at
Central High School, where he earned All-State honors in football, baseball and contributed
to a basketball team that reached the state finals; and
WHEREAS, he continued his athletic career at Louisiana State University, where he
played four seasons for the LSU Tigers football team and started 37 games at center,
establishing himself as one of the premier offensive linemen in the Southeastern Conference;
and
WHEREAS, McClure earned All-SEC honors in 1997 and 1998 and concluded his
collegiate career by being named a first-team All-American by the American Football
Coaches Association, recognizing his exceptional skill and leadership on the field; and
WHEREAS, McClure was selected in the seventh round of the 1999 NFL Draft by
the Atlanta Falcons, demonstrating perseverance and determination in overcoming adversity
after suffering a torn ACL during training camp in his rookie season; and
WHEREAS, after recovering from injury, McClure became the Falcons' starting
center midway through the 2000 season and went on to establish a remarkable record of
consistency and durability, appearing in 198 regular season games with 195 starts during his

fourteen-year career; and
WHEREAS, widely respected for his discipline and reliability, McClure was
penalized only 22 times over the course of those 198 games, averaging fewer than two
penalties per season and demonstrating the highest standards of professionalism and
performance; and
WHEREAS, nicknamed "Mud Duck", McClure also played in nine postseason
contests, bringing his career total to 207 games; and
WHEREAS, in recognition of his extraordinary contributions to the franchise,
Falcons owner Arthur Blank honored McClure with induction into the Atlanta Falcons Ring
of Honor on October 30, 2022; and
WHEREAS, through his dedication, perseverance, and excellence, Todd McClure
has left an enduring legacy in collegiate and professional football while serving as a source
of pride for the citizens of Louisiana.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby
commend Todd McClure on being inducted into the 2026 class of the Louisiana Sports Hall
of Fame.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to Todd
McClure.
