A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
To commend Grambling State University upon the celebration of the centennial of Tiger
Athletics and to recognize its enduring legacy of athletic excellence and its
contributions to the Southwestern Athletic Conference, the state of Louisiana, and
the United States of America.
WHEREAS, Grambling State University is celebrating the centennial anniversary
of Tiger Athletics in 2026, marking one hundred years of tradition, achievement, and pride
in intercollegiate competition; and
WHEREAS, the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics at Grambling State
University sponsors fifteen varsity sports for men and women, competes at the NCAA
Division I level, and is a proud member of the Southwestern Athletic Conference; and
WHEREAS, Grambling State University has won more than one hundred twenty
conference championships, reflecting a long and distinguished record of success across its
athletics program; and
WHEREAS, Tiger Athletics has contributed significantly to the life and identity of
Grambling State University by fostering school spirit, strengthening institutional pride, and
providing generations of student-athletes with opportunities for growth in discipline,
leadership, teamwork, and perseverance; and
WHEREAS, the university's athletics tradition has produced numerous outstanding
student-athletes whose achievements in competition, in the classroom, and in professional
and civic life have brought distinction to Grambling State University and to the state of
Louisiana; and
WHEREAS, Grambling State University is especially renowned for the historic
legacy of its athletics program, including the extraordinary contributions of legendary
football coach, Eddie G. Robinson Sr., whose career helped bring lasting honor and
recognition to the university, while standing as one part of a broader tradition of excellence
across Tiger Athletics; and
WHEREAS, for one hundred years, Tiger Athletics has remained an important part

of the rich heritage of HBCU athletics, the Southwestern Athletic Conference and the sports
culture of Louisiana; and
WHEREAS, the celebration of the centennial of Tiger Athletics is a fitting occasion
to recognize and honor the coaches, student-athletes, administrators, staff, alumni, and
supporters whose dedication and commitment have sustained this proud legacy for
generations.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby
commend Grambling State University upon the celebration of the centennial anniversary of
Tiger Athletics and does hereby recognize its outstanding and lasting contributions to
collegiate athletics, student development, and the proud traditions of the state of Louisiana.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby extend
its sincere best wishes to the student-athletes, coaches, staff, alumni, administration, and
supporters of Grambling State University as they commemorate this historic milestone and
continue the legacy of Tiger Athletics for generations to come.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to
Grambling State University.
