SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 12
BY SENATOR HODGES
A RESOLUTION
To commend and congratulate John Rodriguez upon being named the 2025–2026 "Student
of the Year" at Maurepas High School in Livingston Parish.
WHEREAS, John Rodriguez has been selected as the 2025–2026 "Student of the
Year" at Maurepas High School, an honor that reflects his exceptional dedication to
scholarship, leadership, and personal integrity; and
WHEREAS, John has distinguished himself academically by maintaining a perfect
4.0 grade point average and earning an impressive composite score of 31 on the ACT,
demonstrating both intellectual ability and a strong work ethic; and
WHEREAS, John is an active member of the National Beta Club and consistently
challenges himself through rigorous coursework while representing Maurepas High School
with integrity and pride; and
WHEREAS, in addition to his academic accomplishments, John is a well-rounded
student-athlete who has participated in basketball, cross country, track, and powerlifting,
developing discipline, resilience, teamwork, and leadership through his athletic pursuits; and
WHEREAS, John is thoughtful and engaged in issues affecting students today,
including access to education, emotional intelligence, mental health, and the challenge of
balancing academics with athletics; and he is especially mindful of the unique circumstances
faced by students in smaller schools; and
WHEREAS, John is committed to using his voice and experiences to uplift others
and to serve as a positive role model within his school and community; and
WHEREAS, John plans to attend a Louisiana university through the TOPS program,
with Southeastern Louisiana University, Louisiana State University, and Tulane University
as his top choices, and also intends to pursue a career in a math- or science-related field in
order to make a meaningful and lasting impact.

THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana
does hereby commend and congratulate John Rodriguez upon being named the 2025–2026
"Student of the Year" at Maurepas High School in Livingston Parish.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to John
Rodriguez.
